Performance literature? Sorry, man, I'm just going by what I see in the rulebooks.

The rulebooks say that a "distraction" can prevent you from taking 10. Nowhere is distraction defined, so you can't say that such-and-such isn't a distraction by "what you see in the rulebooks."

By "what you see in the rulebooks," you can never take 10 unless specifically permitted.

Yes, and anything that validates an attempt to destroy verisimilitude in such a brute force manner should be summarily dismissed. As I said before.

Oh, someone is whistling nearby? No take 10 for you. Slightly hungry, sorry man. Slight draft by the door, roll the dice take your chances.

Patently ridiculous.

Why even use the word distracted if it has no functional meaning? Why not just make the rules explicitly at the GM's whim.

Er, destroys verisimilitude by acting exactly as the real word performance literature says things work in the real world?

I'm sorry, but you really do need to pick an argument and stick with it the real world says distractions interfere with skilled performance. The rule set also says that distractions interfere with skilled performance. Seems to me you're out of objections.

Well, rational ones, anyway. I can't wait to see what you do offer, though

The standard mechanic for 'rushing' in pathfinder is an increase of the DC.

A deadline does not necessarily mean that you have less time. But it does tend to push people into rushing.

Try tying your shoes. Now try it when you have to do that and run 15 yards in 30 seconds.

Yep as much as I might find it leaving an odd taste in my mouth its up to the DM when your permitted to T10. I personally would have liked a bit more guidance on the issue of the task at hand question we have an answer regardless of how one feels.

I always assumed that *distracted* meant *in combat*.

It seems I'm not right or wrong, and everyone is confused about this as well.
