Best Options for a Sylph Rogue?

Advice

Hi. I was wondering what would be the best choices (skills, feats, statistics, alternate racial traits-if any, weapons, etc) could be a good choice for a Sylph Rogue I want to make.

I remember reading about how sylphs like to ease-drop, or "listening to the winds", and that instantly made me think of a Roguish character. I think she'll be either of CN or NG alignment-regardless, she'll be a free-spirited character.

Any advice will be more than helpful.

I'd go with an Unchained Knife Master Rogue, using Two-Weapon Fighting with two daggers. You get Weapon Finesse at first level and Dex to damage at third, so you can dump strength as much as you want, focusing on Dexterity and Constitution. You can wear a Chain Shirt, and later a Mithral Chain Shirt.

I would take the Whispering Wind, Breeze-Kissed, and maybe Like the Wind alternate racial traits.

You'll have loads of skills with 8+Int skill points per level and a racial bonus to Intelligence, plus you'll get skill unlocks (maybe Sense Motive to go with the Sylph Rogue alternate favored class bonus, although the extra hp would also be quite valuable), so you should be in pretty good shape there. Stealth will be very important to you.

In terms of feats, I'd take Two-Weapon Fighting, Weapon Focus (dagger), and Deific Obedience if you're okay with worshiping Pharasma. The River Rat trait is also useful. I'd take the Bleeding Attack rogue talent, but the rest can be pretty much whatever you think would be useful.

One last thought: It might be fun to get the Cloud Gazer feat and a wand of Obscuring Mist or Fog Cloud (pumping UMD as much as possible) so you can set up situations where you can see better than anyone else. It's not quite optimal, even with the Unchained Rogue's ability to deal sneak attack damage to enemies with concealment, but it would be a nice Sylph-themed trick to have up your sleeve for emergencies.

Hmm...this could work.

By getting Weapon Finesse at first level, do you mean that I'll get it as a bonus feat, or do I need to select it at first level?

Honestly, when I was thinking about the character, I was planning on using the alternate racial traits Whispering Wind and Breeze-Kissed. I think I'll keep the Energy Resistance, just in case.

With the skills, I figured that my main skills would be Stealth (definitely), Disable Device, Perception, and Escape Artist. I may get a skill rank in Sense Motive as well, and maybe Linguistics to learn a new language. I'm not that familiar with skill unlocks, but I do have Pathfinder Unchained, so I'll read more into that.

And your feat selection is good...except for Deific Obedience. I'm not saying it's a bad choice, but I don't think that's a feat I would like to go with. But I could give it a shot.

Yeah, Deific Obedience is totally not something you want to push into a character where it doesn't fit; I was just pointing out that it is mechanically strong for anyone fighting with daggers and can help shore up some of the rogue's accuracy issues.

You get Weapon Finesse as a bonus feat as a level 1 Unchained Rogue.

Oh, and I just remembered that Minor Magic and Major Magic got a significant improvement in Unchained Rogue, so if you're interested in using Obscuring Mist as I mentioned earlier, you could get it through that route.

That's great!

However, when developing her stats, I had to give her STR at 11, in order to carry around a chain shirt and thieve's tools. Here's what I got for her stats (using the 20 point build; stats with a * are what are put in after the bonuses and penalty to stats):

STR 11 (+0)
DEX 14 = 16* (+3)
CON 15 = 13* (+1)
INT 12 = 14* (+2)
WIS 10 (+0)
CHA 14 (+2)

Feats: Weapon Finesse (bonus), Two-Weapon Fighting

Skill Ranks: 8 + 2 = 10
Skills (those with * have the -2 armor check penalty from Chain Shirts): Stealth +9*, Linguistics +6, Acrobatics +5*, Escape Artist +5*, Disable Device +5*, Perception +4, Sense Motive +5, Use Magic Device +6, Knowledge (arcana) +6, Sleight of Hand +5*

Racial Traits:
-Breeze-Kissed (+2 AC against nonmagical ranged attacks; can be used to bull rush a foe)
-Whispering Wind (+4 Stealth)
-Energy Resistance (electricity resistance 5)

Anything on here that I need to add/change?

Wouldn't you be better off with a 10 Con (2pts) and spending those extra points on Strength? Even with Weapon Finesse, you need the Strength for the bonus damage. :/

I suppose. Then again, at 3rd level, unchained rogues can select a type of light weapon, and that weapon choice can roll with Dexterity bonus instead of Strength for damage rolls (basically like the Small but Deadly feat)

Well, I think, your problem with this character, is that you're putting so much effort into overcoming your weakness, that you starve your strength.

I can't imagine a Sylph in a dex-based class not having an 18+ Dex to begin with... Maybe 17 with plans to raise it at level 4 to 18, but definitely no lower. I think you should embrace your strength, make it work for you, and just balance your flaws (10 Con). Particularly since you're not in a Con-heavy class. After all, look at your skills, almost all of them are going to love that Dex boost. :P

Anyhoots, to each their own of course, just thought I'd point out something I saw. :)

How about this stat array?
Str 11
Dex 18
Con 12
Int 14
Wis 10
Cha 12

It would probably be better to lower either Intelligence or Charisma a bit to get a 12 Wisdom, because your Will saves need all the help they can get. You already have loads of skills, and you use only use Charisma for Use Magic Device. But if you don't want to lower those abilities for roleplaying reasons, you should be okay overall - maybe take a trait for +1 to Will saves. And consider either Iron Will or Great Fortitude if you end up with a free feat down the road.
