Insanity will be a feature.

Will be a Pathfinder Adventure, defeating monsters, etc. Not a Call of Cthuhlu Adventure where investigation is 90% of play.

wow... the AP no one was asking for. Why not just play Call of C'Thulu instead of getting to lvl 20 and curb stomping a Great Old One like a BAWS?

Certainly not no-one.

I imagine a lot of how Carrion Crown was not a 'horror AP' per se, but a Pathfinder hack and slash AP against horror monsters.

For my part, I am also not a Lovecraft fanboy, but neither am I hater of it either. I'm pretty neutral regarding Lovecraft/Cthulhu et al.

But it's pretty clear to me that this is something they *want* to do. Something they have passion for. And often that translates into a good adventure.

I'm definitely interested.

I do think it's interesting that insanity will be a feature. I never played the old Call of Cthulhu RPG but it's my understanding that insanity was a key feature there. They seem to definitely be revisiting something they loved as kids.

You're not the only one Ridge. One of the only things I don't like about Golarion is how often it goes to the Lovecraft / horror in general well. I like a bit of Lovecraft flavour in my fantasy from time to time (it fits really well into Mummy's Mask, for example), but there's too much of it in Golarion, and having an entire AP about it doesn't appeal to me at all.

Whew. Not just me then. :)

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for those who are big Lovecraft fans. This should be right up their alley and make them very happy campers. But this is the internet and I think I'm under some sort of contract to express my opinion on something every ten minutes ;) So it's not for me.
BUT...
as there maybe more accompany setting books that go into the other parts of the world in more detail, I think there will still be a silver lining in this (from a selfish perspective). I know Distant Shores will becoming out, looking forward to that one. This makes me think it won't be alone in filling out the world beyond the inner sea.

James Jacobs is the main developer and I don't think anyone is more passionate abut the subject matter than him. Exciting times ahead! 3 APs in a row that I'm just hyped for.

Close enough! The dream is real!!!

So anything you might be able to slip us, Adam, that wasn't on the Know Direction link? Even if it's just one word to drive us crazy wondering what it means? :D

Sigh. Underwhelmed. Now to decide if it's worth keeping the AP subscription through three APs I'm uninterested in...

Dark Archive

My knee-jerk reaction was "meh". But the more I think about it, the more I think this AP could be something really cool. I'll come back for this one after a 6-month break for the evil AP that I have zero use for.

We will also have the full seminar recording posted on our site!

Sounds awesome!! Thank you for sharing!

I'm currently looking up at the bookshelf next to me at the annotated collections of HPL's works and a first edition 'The Double Shadow and Other Fantasies' by CA Smith.

Given that, my reaction to this AP is :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

So is there any chance this won't involve 17th level PCs vs a CR 20 Star-Spawn of Cthulhu as a BBEG in the final adventure?

Yeah, I could see that. Along with a few shoggoths, PF conversions of the half-farspawn template from "Lords of Madness," and like that. Good times.

Excellent news! I just resubscribed on the strength of the two Cheliax APs, and I'm even MORE psyched for this one!

Dark Archive

Any other products announced or will there be another seminar fo things like that?

Liberty's Edge

Other seminars. Expect a lot of announcents tomorrow.

Liberty's Edge

So what sort of tie-in products would be likely for this?

Maybe another 'other continents' product? Distant Shores Bestiary?

Dark Tapestry Unleashed?

Honestly, I hope not! The Starspawn of Cthulhu is a truly wussified CR 20 creature. They'd need to do something far more epic than that for a finale in an AP as incredible as this one should be!

And yes, I am absolutely looking forward to this one! I'll most certainly resubscribe for it after HV!

Todd, I'm hoping to see you contribute to this AP.

Wow, how did I miss this announcement. Finally an AP that sounds interesting especially after the last two. So we are getting Lovecraft, travel, and possible dreamscape stuff.

I just hope that new Lovecraftian stuff gets slotted as CN (a la Azathoth and Yog-Sothoth), rather than CE. XD That's always nagged at me.

Aside from that, though, it would be VERY difficult to overstate how excited I am for this. XD

Is there any AP where the final boss is a straight out standard creature from the Bestiary?

I agree with more CN not CE Lovecraftian stuff.

Dark Archive

Despite not being a Linnorm Kingdoms adventure path like I had hoped, this sounds absolutely amazing. And with Wes Schneider writing the first installment, it's sure to be an instabuy for me.

*looks at Charter Subscriber tag*

Oh. Right. That.

As much as you prop up my rude counterpart in Sigil, I have to agree with this whole heartedly!

Wes writing? Is the list of episode writers somewhere already??

Wes announced he is one. I'm betting you will see the Carrion Crown writers doing an AP each. Yes!

With the Occult Adventures hot off the press, this one doesn't shock me. I hope for more of a CN/CE mix throughout, with lots of oddities. They mentioned the party will meet the writer of the Necronomicon, which means Oririon, Thuvya, Rahadoum, Katapesh or even the Keleshite Empire as potential locations they could use...

I'm so very pleased. I need to go put my cultist garb in the washer...

Why would you guys want the enemies to be neutral rather than evil? I'm a little uncomfortable slaughtering neutrals by the hundreds.

Yeah, right now we are still at the convention and away from our studios.

@Samy: I think you're thinking of Neutral as in "not particularly good or evil". I'm thinking of Neutral here as "does not even have a human-like sense of morality". A major theme in a lot of Lovecraftian works is that the greater eldritch gods are uncaring. In general, they don't even notice mortals, much less maliciously plot to make them suffer. I feel like writing them as evil suggests a degree of morality and intent that a number of stories featuring them don't really have.

Think of them as being closer to, oh, a natural disaster. The wildfire burning down your home doesn't hate you, really - it is what it is, and if you don't have the tools to fight it, all you can do is get out of the way and try to survive. And if you have the right tools - rituals, the Elder Sign, etc. - you might even be able to direct their power in useful ways, such as when we intentionally burn down areas to help fight other fires. Speaking personally (and I know others might prefer something else!), I would enjoy a Lovecraftian AP much more if this alien neutrality were a major underlying theme.

The Exchange

Great news. I like an AP that focuses on a theme rather than a location (lots of travel!), I like tentacled monstrosities that eviscerate the mind, and I an eager to see how they integrate into Golarion lore.

Also, best AP name ever, I think.
