Why no Dagger of Doubling?

The title says it all. I was building my rogue and thought this would be the perfect weapon for flexibility, but Hero Lab wouldn't let me add it to the character. I checked the reason, and the website says it's illegal for Society play. Is there some cheese that I'm missing? :)

Check the Additional Resources page for the definitive list of what is and isn't legal.

There might not be an explanation of why the item was disallowed.

As an alternate, though, Quick Draw should give you all the flexibility this dagger would.

Shadow Lodge

Presumably, they felt an unlimited amount of +1 daggers to throw was likely to be abusive.

Whether that's the actual reason or not, management felt it was not appropriate for the campaign. The 'general' reasons a item is excluded include:

  • Item is overpowered and/or just under-priced.
  • Item does not fit flavor of the campaign.
  • Item is considered detrimental to PFS play (slows down play too much, greatly complicates encounters, requires too many judgement calls from the GM, etc.)
  • Item is reserved for a chronicle reward.
  • Item was just missed somehow.
Generally speaking, we don't know why a specific item was banned: Sometimes they tell us outright (usually if something is removed from play after it was legal, they'll tell us why), but usually we have to guess...

Oh, on a side note: Dagger of Doubling is a specific magic weapon, which means that if it were legal, you could never upgrade it past +1 enchantment in PFS play.

Lantern Lodge 5/5

For what it's worth, this one feels like "reserved for chronicle sheet" more than anything else.

Well, without any specific reason, I guess your first one would be the most likely.

And yes, I know about the non-upgradeable, named weapon rule. I would have been fine with it in its standard form. I like the flexibility it offers.

Thanks all.

Personally, I'm more upset that the dragoncatch guisarme isn't legal. That is an awesome weapon. Dagger of Doubling is nice, but you can duplicate the effects of one with a blinkback belt.
