No-fine manipulators for race construction.

Homebrew and House Rules

So if you're trying to create a sentient cat or pony or snake, using the Advanced Race guide you run into a problem of the guide seems to have no provisoni for creating races that don't have hands.
So, any suggestions on how much such a drawback should cost?

(And is anyone else a bit disappointed that the ARG really didn't have a lot of support for "Real weirdy" style species?)

You could always go with a puss-in-boots style definition of the race.
But seriously, if you want to make a sentient version of a normal animal as a race there are a few questions you'd have to ask yourself; like how do they make weapons in the first place and how do they make homes. The easiest way to deal with this is to just give them the ability to manipulate things with what they have; things with four hooves are going to be a tough one though.

Felines, canines, and things with tentacles could just be made to be able to hold things; they do have five digits or they could just wrap their appendage around the handle. To stay as close to the basic animal as possible; for things like combat, they would simply make items that would augment their normal animal combat styles; metal claws, caps/metal jaws for their bite, or even blades that they would hold in their mouths or could fasten to a harness to their head or paws.

For spell casting they could draw the symbols in the air with their paws/tentacles; or to get really creative, their tails if they have the ability to move them in more than a back and forth motion.

You could also give them a kind of psionic/arcane natural ability to use mage hand that couldn't be dispelled; if you really want them to be able to manipulate things like humanoids.

There are two ways to do this (both 3rd-party if that bothers you):

Fingerless

Noble Wild animal PCs

I suppose there's a third way to do it: give the race/species an innate telekinetic ability.
