Newbie GM Question - Soul Stealing Creature

Advice

Hi all,

I'm a new GM, and I'm trying to write an adventure to run in a Gothic horror campaign. The party is two PC paladins of 10th level and a couple of NPC companions. I'd like the creature they encounter to be (I apologize for the gruesomeness) a stealer/eater of the souls of unborn babies. I couldn't find a creature like this- is there one I could modify for this purpose?

Sovereign Court

Way too many to cite:

-Devourer (CR 11)
-A Npc (whatever race) with the souleater prestige class.
-Cacodaemon eat souls and make them into gems, usually kept as pets by higher levels daemons. Cacodaemon are the imps of the Daemon outsider family.
-Night hags trade in the soul market.

etc...

Instead of stealing/eating the soul you could have a creature looking to corrupt the soul. A vampire attacking pregnant women but leaving them alive so their children are born as Dhampir instead of human. He then abandons the child to his fate. Have the children be born with obvious vampire traits like fangs and then let the paladins figure out what to do.

You could also use a demon instead of a vampire and have the child be a tiefling or even a half fiend.

Give that bad boy (or one of its greater kin) some class levels or extra hit die or whatever else you think is fun (and balanced).

I'd maybe make it an anti-Paladin who just has a character background of eating babies and reaping souls. Maybe march him around with lesser shadows that are shaped as children?

Thanks guys, these are fantastic ideas! It's going to be lots of fun.
