The new price of Pathfinder Tales.

Tales

I have purchased every Pathfinder Tales novel published, until Lord of Runes.

The reason why I have not purchased the Lord of Runes, and the reason that I probably will cease purchasing these novels new, is the jump in price.

I have always believed that $9.99 was just a bit overpriced for a paperback novel, but not so high as to keep me from buying every novel that hits the shelves.

Now, I see that the price on all novels being released currently, and in the future is $14.99!

Whats the deal with the steep price increase? Does this have something to do with TOR? A shortage of paper?

The quality of the paper is much better, also:
Keep in mind that the tales subscribers get a 30% discount (where before you got none) so you end up paying a 5% increase and not getting the digital version; those that really got the "bad end" of the deal were the tales subscribers who were also AP subscribers and that's because they were already getting a 15% percent discount on their tales and with the new model they ended up paying a ~23% increase and not getting the digital version.

wow I was thinking about picking up the tales subscription but was worried about things getting in the way. thanks for explaining the answer.

The fact that you are an AP subscriber won't have any effect (other than saving some money on the shipping due to having one shipping each month) on your tales subscription. As you know, as an AP subscriber you get a 15% discount on orders from Paizo but because you will be a tales subscriber you will get a 30% discount on the tales book (just like you get for AP volumes), and since discounts don't stack you will get only the biggest discount.

What I said about AP subscribers getting the "bad end" of the deal I said so because with the previous tales (before Lords of Rune) you weren't getting a discount on the tales simply by being a tales subscriber, but if you were both tales and AP subscriber you were getting (in the tales) the usual 15% discount. Now with the new tales, the same person (a tales and AP subscriber) gets the bigger discount (30%) but because of the increase in the price (50%) he ends up paying ~23% more than before.

Just so people know...as a Pathfinder Tales Subscriber you pay $10.49 per book. Figured giving people hard numbers might be helpful.
