Vital Strike + Power Attk

Can a character doing a vital strike combine it with power attack?

As long as you are vital striking with a melee attack yes. Vital strike is an attack, and power attack affects attack rolls.

I have a related question as well: can Vital Strike be used with Felling Smash? Felling Smash is located in Ultimate Combat page 101.

I think so too, as it's not saying felling smash has to BE the attack, like vital strike is. Just adding to it by a swift action expenditure.

Add in Greater Trip to the feat chain and it can get really ugly.

Attack: Vital Strike, Power Attack, Felling Smash
Swift: Trip from Felling Smash
AoA from Greater Trip: Attack for damage or disarm....

Yes. Vital Strike is a no-action ability that can be used with the "Attack" Standard Action. Felling Smash is an ability that can be used as a swift action right after performing an "Attack" Standard Action.

You'll be better off with Greater Trip, IMO, because it works with opportunity attacks and full attacks.
