I heard that radio interview where Godfrey Elfwick claimed that Star Wars was incredibly racist for having the black villain listening to rap music and eating watermelon. Good times.

Weren't the clones created during the prequel trilogy? 20 years or so before A New Hope.

Here's The Guardian writing about it. Godfrey Elfwick was the premier social justice parody account, who routinely got quoted by mainstream media by (mis)representing the cutting edge of social justice activism.

You're right, but they age faster.
See Commander Rex, Wolfe, and Gregor's in their Rebels' appearance.

I haven't noticed in all these trailers and snippets yet, but I'll be interested to see if the new Empire retains its human-centricity.
Considering all signs lead to Finn being a defecting member of The First Order, and Captian Phasma being a woman, at the very least they are being more inclusive of race and gender. No way to know if they are being more tolerant of species.
On the other hand, who is to say that The First Order is even a direct offshoot of the Empire?

They are clearly the "Empire" of this movie, but there have been hints about multiple factions. They could be just one of many different former Imperial remnants. They could be a group that overthrew the section of the Empire they were in when the Emperor & Vader died and then assumed their imagery. It's especially odd considering that Kylo Ren is fixated on Vader and not the Emperor.

I wonder if there will ever be non-human storm troopers.

I saw what looked like Temuera Morrison's face at the 1:03 mark in the theatrical trailer. (The close-up of the guy being tortured or something by the Sith.)
It may also have been just my imagination, though ... Does anyone else have a better suggestion?
Looked like Poe to me, played by Oscar Issac.

My biggest take away from this trailer:
It's rather telling that the events of the Original Trilogy — Episodes VI, V and VI — have themselves become somewhat mythologized in the Star Wars universe.
“There were stories about what happened,” says Rey in a voiceover.
“It’s true. All of it. The Dark Side. The Jedi. They’re real,” responds Han Solo.
I dig it.
Despite what the Rebels would have non human species, and the far flung planets of the Outer Rim believe, The Empire did bring about stability and indeed prosperity to the Core and Inner Regions of the Galaxy.
Many a Core world did believe the Rebellion were a band of disruptive terrorists.
Perhaps with the fall of Emperor Palpatine, with no clear line of succession (as he very well intended), as in the Expanded Universe, in The Force Awakens, the Galaxy as a whole degraded and large pockets were plunged into the Star Wars version of the Dark Ages.
With no strong central government, petty planet wide conflicts and generations of extra species hatred were no longer kept in check. Hotbeds of turmoil that were once squashed by the Imperial Military now runs rampant, and swaths of the Galaxy fractures into something akin to our own world's history. Continued warfare between a multitude of factions only reinforces this spiral.
Perhaps that was The Emperor's parting gift. If he and his New Order would "save" the Galaxy, then let it all burn.
My two standard Galactic credits.

Considering that Snoke is being defined as "Supreme Leader of the First Order" and "a powerful figure in the Dark Side" (thank you Wookieepedia), it seems I've answered my own question. He's being played by Andy Serkis in a motion-capture suit. So, very likely alien.

That's a very fair assessment. And probably near the mark.
Back in the 1970's there were people wondering if there was an alien encased in Darth Vader's armor. I am genuinely happy it turned out to be a man. One who redeemed himself in the end.
I like the idea that the darkest evil in the Star Wars Galaxy is not some alien being but rather humans, who in turn are also capable of soaring to great heights of heroic good.
It's Space Opera after all.

In the universe now known as Legends, The Empire of the Hand had non-human stormtroopers. (Source: Survivor's Quest)
In Canon, we'll just have to wait and see. Since they aren't using clones, I'd consider it possible. Real-life budget limitations are probably not as significant either, which makes me think it's even more plausible.Aberzombie |

So...apparently there is some sort of ruckus being caused by people over having ONE African-American actor in the movie.
Some people are calling for a boycott because they feel that it's not white enough?
I REALLY don't get this. Are these people blind?
I see that the other two lead actors ARE white (from what I can tell)...
Poe and Rey really look white to me...and Han Solo sure seems like he's white.
In fact, it looks like the entire bloody cast is white except for that ONE exception. How in the world are they getting away with this with no one calling them on it?
Even with ONE minority actor...it actually may be MORE lilly white than some of the other movies (which had Samual Jackson (he's in his own league), African Americans, Hispanics, Asians...and even one New Zealander in a pretty noticeable role) from what I've seen in the trailers thus far.
So I don't get what these people calling for this boycott are doing.
The only qualm I might have is if they show the Stormtrooper defector as not being "a little short" (I think Hamill is 5'9" and ironically...so is Boyega...if you recall from the first film....)for a stormtrooper. However...as it doesn't seem to be actually the Empire, that probably isn't something to even notice either.
Of course, for some reason the media is spouting all of this off when ever I read it. When ever they do...I just don't get it.
Someone should call this little boycott group out on their ridiculous statement. I don't have the media clout...but I'll do it here...
WTH are they complaining about. The entire cast is basically White except for ONE guy. If anything people should be asking what happened to all the other minorities in the SW universe. Didn't boyega (actually the character he plays) have siblings, parents, etc? What happened to everyone else? Why is it that you have such a lack of melatonin in a universe rife with areas where evolution would support more of it (Deserts, Jungles, etc)?
I don't get what these people are on...unless they simply just can't stand anyone who isn't white being in the movie?

I notice they are Empire era Stormtroopers instead of First Order ones. They probably worked with volunteers from the 501st to pull this off instead of hiring extras and providing the costumes.
You are correct, seventeen chapters of the 501st Legion, over 50 Stormtroopers and auxiliaries.
That still cost Disney at least $100 K in airfare, hotels and food and probably a Hutt's ransom in ... donations to finesse the goodwill of the Chinese Government officials who rubber stamped this.
But since the Chinese movie market will surpass the US by 2019, what's a few hundred thousand give or take.

How does that Forgotten Realms saying go ...
On the honor of my word, nothing within these pages I know to be false, but not all of it may prove to be true.
I have gotten five PMs about the Star Wars timeline questions as to which is considered current canon, I have scoured the web and of the two most prominent timeline guides this seems the most accurate per The Empire of the Mouse. I like some of what has been put out, some are rather lackluster.
I also got a PM to start an "ask Baron Arem Heshvaun all your Star Wars questions" thread, I think if Vic Wertz would co host I would consider it (my credits say he won't so I am off the hook).
I would like you guys to look at this. Exceptional fan made cut of all the trailers for The Force Awakens.
I would have put the lightsaber stand off towards the end myself but since I do not have the skill set to make this myself I will just nod and say "nicely done youngling."

I may be a little off on the comics, books and games, but my understanding is current canon is the live action theatrical movies, the Clone Wars movie and TV show, Rebels, and all comic, games, and novels published after the canon announcement (with, depending on how you look at publishing date, the exception of the new Fallen Empires expansion for The Old Republic).
I was happy to see that Disney is actually using WEG stuff in Canon.

Indeed.
Then again its hard not to.
The Inquisitors, Imperial Intelligence, The Imperial Security Bureau, the names/class/designations/capabilities of the majority the capital ships, the backgrounds of the secondary characters, the locations of planets in the Galaxy and more all got its start from WEG.
But over the decades a lot of what we consider as canon came from an impressive multitude of varied sources, ranging form Timothy Zhan's Coruscant, to Kenner Toys Zuckuss and 4-LOM (For The Love Of Money), to the MIT students who "proved" the length of the Executor, to the unknown fanboy who gave Grand Moff Tarkin his first name.

Yeah, but to me anyway, there's a difference between some names and larger background and world building elements like what's being used in Rebels and such.
