What kind of opportunities will there be to buy improvements in gear? For example, around the time I hit 7th, I would like to purchase mithril full plate (because I doubt I'll find a suit of it lying around) but the frenetic pace that I've seen so far makes me wonder if I will even have the opportunity to do so.
The best answer would be the advice to ask your GM.
This AP does not take place in a part of the world where it is likely you will be trading for highly valuable goods. Now, once you have access to teleport that could very well change.
I plan to run this for our group in the future and have only bought the first 2 books, but my understanding is that this is primarily a wild-lands AP. Good luck!

I agree with Dosgamer about asking your GM.
That said there are a number of settlements not too far from the locations where the adventures take place. I believe that I listed a bunch of them off in the Giantslayer Player's Guide as potential origins and places to re-up on supplies.
The foreword to Pathfinder #93 (the third adventure) also contains advice for buying gear and selling loot during the campaign (the foreword is even titled "To Market, To Market"), so it might be helpful to point your GM toward that if he/she hasn't already seen it.
