The Price of a Monster (Book 1 spoilers)

Mummy's Mask

My party did everything right as regards the ahkhat in the Sanctum: knocked it down to so wounded it had to retreat, found the scroll describing it, found the keystone.

One of their first questions after reading the scroll was, "Can we move it?"

According to the Bestiary entry: yes, they can. It seemed the sort of thing that would be found on the scroll.

Now they want to sell it at the auction.

They've done well and I want to reward them, but I don't want to make the next adventure too easy, either.

What would be a fair price for such a marvellous and unique creature, for a party of three level 4 PCs? It seems any number I can give it would be too low!

Scarab Sages

Nothing that would be worth more than 1/4 of the wbl advancing between 4 and 5 th levels. It's an oddity yes, but is more of an oddity than a lost artifact of importance. You could have folks low balling the auction calling it nothing more than a permanent unseen servant.

Reasonable enough, and that's a good estimate (I'll start low enough they can bid it up to your max if the bard does well).

The "Repair Structure" ability is the reason it seems to be worth so much to me. Mind you, what the richest people in the world would deem it worth is not necessarily what the richest family in Wati would/can pay for it.

Update: No one objected to the selling price of 1000gp (after enthusing one buyer in the product). Thank you for your help!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Just for the laughs: These guys really like doing this! They just sold the trained hyena in Book 2.
