Welp, there's another FAQ I will be ignoring when I GM.

Liberty's Edge

Now to figure out if you can 5 foot tumble or just embrace gorum and get dodge/mobility

This seems like another FAQ that contradicts its own logic. The action that provokes the aoo is defined as being part of a move and so not provoking twice. Yet somehow the move still provokes when taken as a 5 foot step? It seems that either entering should be its own special action that provokes separate from the move or it should be avoidable by the 5 foot step since its part of a move.

Edit: Specifically it seems to contradict the logic of this FAQ.

I was thinking the same thing but anguishes explanation makes a lot of sense

Moving (genrally) provokes. Exception: movement in the form of a 5-ft-step doesn't. Exception to the exception: unless you're tiny.

Done.

The deeper we get into edge-conditions, the more it's going to be like this. Take the Tiny familiar on its master's shoulder, next to a foe. A 5-ft-step still provokes to enter the enemy's square, even though it's a 5-ft, and even though the square left had cover.

This seems like a very nice explanation to me.

It also gives me hope that probably monsters can't 5-foot step away from my Mouser's Underfoot Assault either without giving me an AoO. The 5-foot step never provoking anything is not a universal rule, and the very specific rule of the Mouser says that if they move out of our shared space I get an AoO.

Either it does or its a prone shooter ability that doesn't do anything. Considering it gives up parry/riposte it should be pretty strong

Another week with no FAQ. Why is it called FAQ Friday yet so many Fridays go by with no FAQ answers? And the ones they do answer are easy answers usually, when will they tackle the more hardcore FAQs?

Sovereign Court

Does this faq addresses the 3 size difference rule? (In the case of tiny 5-foot stepping or tumbling into large creature square? I.e. they can move in those squares)

In the interest of getting this FAQed, I'm going to come down on the other side and say it wouldn't provoke any AoOs.

5' step says:
Taking this 5-foot step *never* provokes an attack of opportunity.

It's not just an action that doesn't provoke, it explicitly says it never provokes. That trumps the provoke from moving into an opponent's square (which is still an AOO from movement.) At least by my reading.

A five foot step assumes you take... a single step. Tiny creatures though are so small they don't take up a full five foot area of the battlefield. So I'd think they can't take a five foot step, they have to do a normal move action. You know, just as anyone else would if in hindering terrain.

The rules do not support this view. Nothing in there says that a tiny creature cannot take a 5' step. Likewise, nothing in the rules says that a colossal creature can take 10' or 15' steps. All creatures, by default, can take a 5' step - size has nothing to do with it.

If you want to try and argue from the real world view, and that it is indeed a single step, I ask you to prove that you can actually take a full 5' single step and not be in a position that would provoke, considering that a full 5' step would leave a person very unbalanced.

This weeks FAQ was on the nauseated condition.... maybe you should actually look before complaining :)

Maybe it's because, lately, every time they post a FAQ we all start wailing and screaming and rending our clothes over it.

I wouldn't publish any more, either. Especially not the hardcore questions.

Or at least, I'd be damn sure before I post any more.

Actually the Nauseated Condition FAQ is from January 8th (about three weeks ago). Barachiel Shina is correct that we didn't get a FAQ this week. But it's the first week since the holiday season that we didn't get one. That's pretty consistent to me.

This one seems like a dull roar at least.

Nope. Unless you're tiny AND moving into a creatures space. There's no provision for 5 footing out of a creatures space or within their threatened area acting any differently than any other 5 foot step.

Dang, maybe I should pay closer attention before calling out on other people to do the same.
