Renown on a ship

Ultimate Intrigue Playtest General Discussion

Can a ship qualify to be a community for the purposes of renown? It'd be nice to have a traveling location to get the bonus from and it would make sense for a ship to spread rumors about their captain when they enter port.

I'd ok it as a GM. It's definitely a community of under 200 individuals. If you're a pirate/hunter that renown might even spread to the entire ocean faring community in your region by 20th level.

As long as it's a community within the size limits you can use renown with it. So yes.

I think most DMs would let you use the ship as a community for the purposes of Renown, but by the rules your renown-based abilities would only apply to the ship, not to whatever port the ship happened to be docked in, any more than having a small neighborhood as one of your communities would let your renown abilities apply to the entire city the neighborhood is in.

It would better suit you to read up on the skull and shackles disrepute and infamy set up. It may help you gain an idea of a system already in place.

The Intimidate portion of renown applies to within a few miles of the community.

Pirate Vigilante: First Mate/Ship Steward

The ship steward is the social identity, makes a few random appearances to bolster ship morale and be the face of the ship in port, meanwhile the first mate persona is cracking whips and fighting off krakens.
