Hybrid Druid / Cleric Class

Homebrew and House Rules

How would you go about making a hybrid class of both the cleric and the druid?

There's not a lot of design space between cleric and druid left: they are extremely similar in many ways (3/4 BAB full caster with a divine spell list). I don't think there's enough room for an entire hybrid class, honestly. A cleric with the animal and plant domains, or a domain druid, works quite well already..

I'd make a caster. Half BAB d6 prepared divine casting using the combined lists. Light or no armor proficency and simple weapons. Probably two domains from the druid list or two domains one of which has to be off the druid list. Strong fort and will saves.

From there I'd see if playtesting indicating it needed more. After that I'd go for spontaneous domain casting. I doubt that the class would still be weak at that point, but from there I'd go for bonus metamagic or item crafting feats like the wizard starting at every 6 levels and adjusting from there.

I like this idea. Its like toning down the druid. I always felt that the druid was three classes (the hedgemage, the animal shaper, and the beast master) that were smashed poorly together.

In this rendition, we could focus on the hedgemage aspect. A light/no armored divine caster, with a huge combined spell list that is prepared each day. it could have one nature styled domain and one random styled domain.

It could have channel energy and an ability to banish extra-planar creatures.

It's called the Spirit Shaman from 3.5e.
