Blind reach cleric

Rules Questions

So I'm at the moment theory crafting a reach cleric with the darkness domain. You automatically get blind fight as a bonus feat. Great, now let's say the cleric uses deeper darkness to create supernatural darkness that nobody can see through (baring himself at 8th and a few strange creatures) assuming he cannot see through it, but he does have blind fight can he make attacks of opportunity at reach? What about regular attacks?

All creatures gain total concealment in darkness, which means a 50% miss chance (which you get to try twice because of blindfighting).

You can still make attacks of opportunity as well as regular attacks while unable to see, but there is a major complication : You have to know where the enemy is.

You have a chance to detect a creature that you can't see that is *somewhere* within 30 feet with a DC 20 Perception check. In order to know the creature's exact location requires a DC 40 Perception check (DC 40 *plus* the result of a Stealth check if the creature is sneaking).

If you do not know the exact location (which square on the map) you automatically miss. That will make attacks of opportunity (especially ones with reach) very difficult to succeed at.

where in the rules does it say this? I would like to read it for reference.

Also the DC 40 perception isn't that if the creature isn't moving at all? That would obviously not apply to an attack of opportunity.

Total Concealment: If you have line of effect to a target but not line of sight, he is considered to have total concealment from you. You can't attack an opponent that has total concealment, though you can attack into a square that you think he occupies. A successful attack into a square occupied by an enemy with total concealment has a 50% miss chance (instead of the normal 20% miss chance for an opponent with concealment).

You can't execute an attack of opportunity against an opponent with total concealment, even if you know what square or squares the opponent occupies.

You can't make an AoO against an opponent you can't see. Period. You would need a way to get termorsense or blindsight.

Is there any way other than senses to get around that limitation?

Greater blind Fight will allow you to treat Total Concealment as concealment, but it requires 15 ranks in perception.

Greater Blind Fight lets you treat a creature with total concealment as if they had only concealment. A better way to do what you are intending would be using fog or smoke to create the concealment and use water/fire sight.

Hmm, thanks.

Tremor boots give you tremorsense 20 ft. Also spells like Echolocation can help.

Would Tremor boots give me AoO's?

Probably not, as tremorsense just allows you to pinpoint the square a target is in, and we already know that just knowing the square(s)your opponent occupies is not sufficient.

Blindsight will work.the above mentioned echolocation or circlet of mindsightif you have the gold.

See in Darkness racial trait will also do the trick - fanglord (weretiger-kin) skinwalker from Races of Blood has that ability in were-form.

Circlet of mindsight wouldn't work as blindsense does not overcome concealment, it just shows you where a creature is.

quite right! that's what I get for skim reading.

A sword masters blindfold gives you blindsight in your melee reach. It would let you make AoOs.
