PFS Playtest: "The Revenant" (Vigilante Warlock)

For a game of the Confirmation I ran a Elven Warlock “The Revenant.” He was an Elf Vigilante Warlock with heavy emphasis on ranged combat (18 DEX, 16 INT, 14 STR) and a Mighty Composite +2 Longbow.

Let me start off by saying “Holy Skill Modifiers Batman.” With 6+ Int modifier skills, I had the most skills I’ve ever had with a Pathfinder character. There were a few glaring knowledge skills that I felt the absence of, but between deciphering the <redacted>, having a decent Perception, and various Monster Knowledge checks, there were few skill checks I didn’t participate in. I also started a running joke with the various monsters identified as having killed his parents.

Things that killed The Revenant’s parents:

“A Minotaur killed my parents.”
“Zombies killed my parents.”
“Skeletons killed the zombies that ate my parents.” <retcon when the GM replaced the zombies with skeletons>

For the downside… outside of skill checks and various Batman jokes, I was reduced to shooting a Composite Longbow throughout combat, often into melee without Precise shot. I held my own, but I felt like somewhere between Pregen Harsk (we had one of those) and a bard without Bardic Performance in terms of combat. My prepared spells, Color Spray and Grease, ended up having too short of a range, mind affecting, or were poor tactical choices to cast. This was at least partly due to the nature of the Confirmation combats, but still a data point.

Dual Identity was also kind of hand-waved away, rather than bogging down the introduction. I spent the remainder of the scenario out of Social Form.

The character I was running had two XP from pregens, so I’ll see how things are at Second Level. I’m debating changing the race from an Elf to a Human just to pick up Precise Shot a level early as well of the merits of a 16 INT and how much of an offensive Caster he will be.
