Brawlers and natural weapons

Rules Questions

If I am playing a 10th mutagenic mauler and I select feral mutagen can i take weapon focus (claws). If I do so and then go on to take feral combat training what is my damage die type? Do I add my str to damage (like an US) or 1/2 str (like secondary natural weapon)? Would this allow me to add the claws to brawlers flurry or simply replace attacks?

Is there a way that using natural attacks is better then just using brawlers flurry?

the damage die would be the damage die of the claw or of your fist, whichever you want.

Depends on how you're using the claws. If you're doing some weapon attacks and then the claws after then they are all done at 1/2 str. If they are the only attacks you do then they are full str, FCT doesn't change this

replace.

if you have three natural attacks you can do all three while brawlers flurry is 2 attacks until lv8.

Until about level 10, claw/claw/bite is better than regular brawler's flurry (at least compared to unarmed strikes; when you used 2 handed weapons that get x1.5 power attack and can be enhanced easily, it is hard to compare).

That is the general logic behind natural attacks- you are good as long as you have more attacks than iteratives. This is generally true whether compared to either 2 handing or TWF.

So basically- you picked the very point where feral mutagen doesn't quite cut it. If you can grab another natural attack, then you are fine.

I forget though, does feral combat training let you use natural attacks as part of the brawler's flurry? I ask since the feat was written way before brawler, so it references the monk class feature directly (and I am not sure whether they have made brawler's flurry qualify for that)

I am not sure if that inconsistency was ever addressed.

Brawlers flurry says any combination of unarmed strikes, weapons from the close fighter weapon group, or weapons with the "monk" special feature. And FCT says "effects that augment an unarmed strike." so I'd say yes

That has always been a point of contention in every discussion involving FCT on the rules forums-it is reason why I don't think this bit of discussion will get too far (like most questions involving FCT)

So, instead of appealing to that, I will appeal to the fact that FCT mentions the flurry bit separately- that could be seen as a separate clause, and as such the first doesn't qualify you for brawler's flurry.
