Undead Company

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Hey,

Henchmen often allow you to "immediately attempt to close the location this henchman came from" when you beat them, or beat them under certain condition. Undead Company tells you that you may "immediately CLOSE the location this henchman came from". Is this a typo, or are you really meant to automatically close the location if you want, skipping the "attempt to close" part and resolving the "when permanently closed" part right off the bat?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

"Do what the card says" is a basic rule of the game so you automatically close the location and resolve the "when permanently closed".
That's what I understand ^^

From the blog entry it appears that Amies simply allow you to decide to close the location if they get defeated. But maybe some other henchmen do so, too...?

Good rule to follow.

Paul, if the card says what you stated, then you immediately Close the location after the defeat. If this is a mistake on the card, Paizo can add it to the FAQ and you start playing it a different way. But for now, play it the way it states.

Yeah that's how we played it of course, but since this is different from usual behavior (and WotR has a lot of nasty, nasty locations with nasty, nasty "on closing" effects) I just wanted to point it out and be sure that it was intentional (because these Army Henchmen are already quite a pain in and of themselves to be honest) and not an oversight ^_^

I noted that on the blog post and Keith Richmond confirmed that's the way the Army henchmen are.

And _I_ confirmed it worked that way a few months ago from the guys in the know like Chad, Mike, and Vic :)

Have fun reveling in the victories over armies, and the resultant autocloses.

Just, you know, make sure you read all the Armies, in case some of them *don't* work that way.

I'm just sayin'.

Hmm, okay the Armies so far.

Never underestimate Vic's ability to leave randomly vague "I can neither confirm nor deny"-like posts in threads like these.

I just wanted to add (yesterday, actually) that it is kind of a relieve to not have to make a check to close after battling an army... and maybe after spending enough blessings on all those checks to defeat the army.

Which "may or may not" be followed by posts by Mike asking us to hold our thoughts.

Actually the card says: If defeated, you may immediately close the location this henchman came from. Keyword: "May". So, while you may close the location without making a closing check, you do not have to close it if you think there are still some goodies worth keeping the location open for.
