Extra Rappan Athuk material

Product Discussion

I know the second Cyclopean Depths book is imminent. Am I misremembering that there were going to be future expansion of RA as well (beyond the first 'subscription')?

Or was that just a possibility which isnt likely to happen in the near future?

Dark Archive

As much as I like writing my own RA material, it would be nice to get some new official material in the form of Expansion II (and III and IV...).

I would back this if it were to come to pass.

Dark Archive

I don't recall seeing anything about Expansion II from FGG.

Steve, I said this in the other thread where you asked me about this.

The Frogs on the boards have said they are not going to do subscriptions again, but they did say someplace that there would be more RA material but they have not talked about those plans yet that I have seen. I try to read all the Frog threads.

Thanks, Shem. I read them all too, but I'm easily confused. :)

Fingers crossed we see some more RA stuff medium term. I guess they're a little banked up with announced products for the next year or so anyhow.

Cheers

Yes, there is a lot coming out in the next couple of years.

What I love about the Frogs is that they do a kickstarter to print a book but all or most of the work is done before the kickstarter.

The current one originally said it would be out in July and even if it turns out to be August or September that is so much better than so many other companies, who sometimes have not even written anything or much when they do the kickstarter.

I could name some folks here but will forego that...

That was my understanding also - no more subs, but more due to the time pressures and obligations (plus the potential of being late). I think their concern was more of a method of purchase and delivery - aka - the subscription model.

That being said - they still can come out with an Expansion II, III, (Un)Living Rappan Athuk (Campaign guide, plots), Rappan Athuk - The Lost Levels, etc - without putting themselves on the spot or a forced time table that a subscription would require.

I know that FGG wants to expand their Lost Lands Campaign world and that is what gamers want and GMs need to run a long term game, but to me RA is a gold mine of potential material that needs be revisited time to time. I think those opining for it in this thread are going on the information that RA would still be getting some product.

RA is the Lost Lands Castle Greyhawk and Temple of Elemental Evil (combined). It was one of the supplements/mods that hooked people back in the NG days (along with Bard's Gate, Lost City of Barakus, Vault of Larin Karr) and much like Orcus and Tsathoggua it is an iconic dungeon that people remember. To me it would make sense to keep RA in the minds of Lost Lands GMs and players as an important locale of the Lost Lands (much like Tsar).

Hi Guys!

Rappan Athuk is indeed our iconic landmark and a ton of potential remains. We will certainly continue to revisit it from time to time in the future. That said I don't know of any formal plans to do so at the present. We're all pretty booked up at the moment with other FGG products we've got in the works (however, there's no telling what is going on in the mind of Bill). But you're exactly right, I don't ever see us abandoning RA entirely. It's too much a piece of what we do.

As for Cults of the Sundered Kingdoms. It is through editing, conversion, art, and layout. So I think it is now with the printer since I have approved the layout proofs Chuck prepared as of a week or so ago. He can comment with more accuracy I'm sure. So at this point we're in the hands of the printer's timetable, though I haven't heard the particulars of that yet. When I know more, I'll pass it on.

The Player's Guide has also gone through all of the above steps.

The Tales of the Lost Lands packs have as well but are awaiting a final piece of art before layout is completed. As soon as that process is finished, we will start distributing them to all our backers. I'm thinking it should be soon since we don't have to contend with printing time.

Fields of Blood and Cyclopean Deeps 2 are somewhere in those stages as well, but I'm not the developer of thse books, so I can't say for sure. I know they're both complete though.

In other news Northlands Saga is now in editing and about to head for conversion and art. I'm setting up a meeting with Ken Spencer sometime this week hopefully so we can bang out the art order and get that assigned. We're looking at an early September KS launch I believe due to some scheduling conflicts that arose in July (of which I cannot make comment yet). :-)

I'm doing the canon edit on the adventures for Tom Knauss's next book, Mountains of Madness, right now.

The complete manuscript for The Blight is now in as well, though I haven't had a chance to look through it all yet with these other projects lined up.

Greg

Thanks, Greg. I'm glad to hear it's possible, even if it's a way off.

I'm really looking forward to both the Blight and the Northlands Saga. I'm also very keen to hear about the Campaign Setting and when/if we might see more of the world fleshed out through sourcebooks other than via adventures.

Keep them coming. :)

I can't wait for more RA. But then it will likely take years for my group to get back to RA at the rate they are going. But they will likely finish TofA in the nest few sessions.

With 58 levels/Encounter areas I think I am set for RA for now, but will look for new stuff in the future of course! Running two PBP games at present.

The Lost Lands: Borderland Provinces by Matt Finch is going to fit the bill perfectly for that. And, having read it, it is a very cool sourcebook (though it does have one very neat city adventure in it). It is currently scheduled for a Jan 2016 release.

Thanks, Greg that's both exactly the kind of thing I want and earlier than I expected. :)

We have bunches in the works guys--major focus right now is on fleshing out the area...that being said, RA never sleeps:)
