6 person lvl 1 party vs. lvl 3 Inquisitor & lvl 2 Alchemist

Round 3: Alchemist and Inquisitor

On Friday, my players consisting of the following:

Level 1 Paladin
Level 1 Ranger
Level 1 Evoker
Level 1 Bard
Level 1 Summoner (snake)
Level 1 Druid

had an encounter with 12 Snowbolds, a Level 3 Inquisitor (mounted), and a Level 2 Alchemist (mounted). Snowbolds are nearly the same as regular Kobolds, but I gave them full movement through snowy terrain. This was the 2nd adventure of the campaign and they'd received their Christmas presents, so they had some gear.

The terrain: Snowy, open glacier. The PCs were able to see the Snowbolds out to 120'.

Round 1: Buffing and ranged attacks. Summoner sends his pet. Bard inspires. The 12 regular snowbolds took defensive positions and loosed multiple bolts at the oncoming PCs. The Alchemist drank his Expeditious Retreat Extract.

Round 2: Closing range. Regular snowbolds shoot. Evoker shoots. Pet advances. Evoker and Alchemist move positions to their left flank, away from melee PCs. Inquisitor shoots his longbow and misses. Alchemist drinks STR Mutagen.

Round 3: Inquisitor Engages the Ranger and Snake at point blank range. Snowbolds are being whittled down with burning hands (double damage due to cold subtype) and the Paladin. Alchemist drinks enlarge person elixer, standing over mount as he grows.

Round 4: Inquisitor Judges the Ranger. He attacks and hits. The Inquisitor launches a Bomb at him. Ranger is in rough shape. Paladin, Bard, Druid, Evoker making quick work of Snowbolds.

Round 5: Alchemist moves near the front line. Bombs Evoker. Snowbolds move to reinforce Alchemist. Inquisitor holding but doing little damage now with the snake and Summoner in the fray. Druid heals.

Round 6: Alchemist throws poisoned dagger at Evoker. Evoker passes DC 13 fort save. Alchemist takes serious damage from Bard and Paladin. Inquisitor holding other 3 PCs due to high AC, but doing little thanks to his ranged combat build.

Round 7: Alchemist tries to break away and run. Evoker takes him down with magic missile.

Foregone conclusion: Inquisitor eventually succombs to damage and falls.

Inquisitor Impressions: I think that the Inquisitor is good but mine didn't work out due to ranged build. It would be nice if Judgements were different. Maybe start out strong and get weaker rather than the other way around. Spells are ok. Shield of Faith gave the character staying power. I should have thought to use true strike in combat instead of taking point blank shot and precise shot.

Alchemist Impressions: Great class overall. He stayed up for some time, but required a great deal of buff time to realize full potential. The Alchemist is very strong with prep time and would likely have a real tough time compared to other characters in an ambush. Then again, poison use and bombs are good in a pinch, so really no complaints.

I'll post stats later. I use the 16, 15, 14, 12, 10, 8 array for medium-echelon NPCs.
