My ranger(Infiltrator) just hit level 4. ANNND I have zero clue about what i want to do for the hunter's focus. On one hand the group could use the bonus to favored enemy, I also like the idea of a scout in the party, i.e Hawk/Eagle animal companion.

Generally the Animal Companion is the better choice unless you are almost always fighting your favored enemy in a themed campaign sort of thing.
If your GM allows the boon companion feat, which is Paizo but not core product line (not sure if it is PFS legal or not) then definitely animal companion.
Scouting isn't generally an optimal use of an animal companion because they are limited in what they can tell you by animal level intelligence, let the monk do that or the druid in brid form. Don't let that discourage you from taking a bird animal companion if that fits your character though.
