What is the point of the Erudite?

Product Discussion

One concept that have always compel me has been the Erudite, a psion who can learn/access powers from all disciplines. So when psionics come to Pathfinder I got very excited to see the Generalist, an Erudite since launch day, but then I read and for my disappointment the Generalist only draw/learns powers form the psion class and the only class feature that allows him to access others powers is Expanded Mind a 20 lv ability and for just one power.

Then come the Erudite as an archetype to the generalist, I got excited again, when I first read Daily Powers I though, this is it, but then I read again and realizes to my greater disappointment that it doesn't allow discipline powers, such a let down.

So then my question what is the point of the Generalist and Erudite archetype in Pathfinder?

And second, is too broken to have access to all powers? Even in mythic psionics the psionic version of Wild Arcana is nerfed in comparison.

To your second question, considering that the psion casting mechanic works like the Arcanist, yes, having all spell lists at your disposal and at the mercy of your cherry picking is extremely powerful, especially if you know your foe's weakness. If the class just had that, and no other class features, it might still be on the high end of powerful.

Some classes/disciplines have certain powers earmarked for a reason. They are what really define that build. If a class had the ability to manifest all powers it would take something from those other classes. There would be little reason to play anything else.

I'm not implying that it should have access to all powers for free, the Erudite from 3.5 had the Unique power per day limit. Also what define a class are their class features, so in the psion case, they gains discipline abilities in addition to discipline powers. An Erudite should have his discipline abilities focused in accessing other powers. So I don't feel the 3.5 Erudite took something from the Psion, which bring me back to first question, what is the point of the Erudite in Pathfinder?

I was waiting a response from Dreamscarred Press folks, I hope is not too much to ask, I only want to understand. Perhaps if I rephrased the question as, what is the role of the Erudite?

Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

I'm not the Dreamscarred Press folks, but I believe they have said before that they do in fact think the 3.5 Erudite was broken in one of their FAQs about how their version of psionics isn't broken. Of course, I seem to recall they thought it was only published in a Dragon Magazine, when it's on page 153 of my copy of Complete Psionics anyways, so maybe I'm just misremembering...

I know many people consider the Erudite from Dragon Magazine broken, must probably, but the Erudite from Complete Psionic is not, I interpret the Unique powers per day as 11 at 20 lv, that number is not a coincident is the same as the powers known by the Wilder.
