Endless Ammunition and Enlarge Person

Each time an endless ammunition weapon is nocked, a single non-magical arrow or bolt is spontaneously created by the magic, so the weapon's wielder never needs to load the weapon with ammunition.

Since the ammunition is spontaneously created does the enlarge person spell effect that spell (minor creation) and create a large arrow which reduces when fired? Or does the magic of the bow create a large arrow because the bow is large? Or is the bow locked in to one type of creation at the time of the bows creation, so only medium arrows are created, which would be unaffected by the enlarge person since it didn't exist at the time the spell was cast?

My thought is that it creates an arrow appropriate for the size of the bow meaning that it doesn't reduce in size when fired. All the other FAQ and threads about endless ammunition say it's horribly priced and compared to other items of similar effect I would have to agree.

Now if the endless ammunition could create blunt arrows, flight arrows, splinter arrows and the like (all made of wood and non-magical) then I could see where the +2 was justified. I'm wondering what the original intent was for this item to justify a +2 enhancement.

Whatever the process is, it doesn't matter. The end result is that it will be a medium size arrow (assuming you are normally medium in size) that hits the target and deals damage.

The only way to have enlarge person to increase the damage of arrows is to carry around large arrows separately and then become enlarged and pick back up the arrows. It works alright if you can prebuff yourself. Otherwise the round spent to accomplish this would be better spent just attacking.

As far as Endless Ammunition, yes it sucks. Do what everyone else does and ignore it.

Buy durable arrows of whatever type you want, keep them in an efficient quiver and be done with it.

Arrows do damage based on the bow that fires them, so a large bow firing medium arrows will still do large bow damage.

Incorrect. Arrow damage is the worst of either bow size or projectile size.

You would be right, except large person says it doesn't work that way when your size is increased via that spell.

If you were a Goliath druid and fired a bow while pokymotohed into a huge giant it would desk damage as a huge bow. But enlarge person has special rules.

My take is that the arrow is conjured at the time of nocking the bow so would function like the large arrows you picked up off the ground after casting enlarge person on yourself.

That would be my assumption to. This would work the same as if you handed a quiver of large arrows to your squire, enlarged, took the quiver back, and started firing.

I agree with this interpretation of how Enlarge Person and Endless Ammunition interact.

Likewise. The arrow was never medium to begin with, so cannot return to that status, I think.

This might help endless ammunition be less crappy.

I was having trouble following the conversation until I realized the topic was Endless Ammunition not Abundant Ammunition. :)

I agree that the bow would create ammunition appropriate for its current size. So enlarging or reducing yourself while holding the bow should alter the size of the ammunition that it will then create. Like Qaianna says, the arrow won't return to its original size when fired because it already is its original size.

So I brought this question to the local community of resistants and got the same take as the first 5 posters of the thread and came up with the two different brands of endless ammunition

For 16,000gp you get.

320000 ARROWS IN A CAN(TM), unoriginal sized arrows for your original sized bow. This magic bow polish ensures the medium sized bow it's placed on always creates a medium sized arrow when loaded whether it's been polymorphed smaller, larger or into a crossbow, whatever, you get one medium arrow per pull back.

Or BIG SHOT BOB'S BAD ASS BOW BALM(TM), nock and know technology always delivers the right ammo at the right time.

320000 ARROWS IN A CAN(TM)just doesn't seem right to me. It feels weird that a +2 enchantment on my weapon would be so stubborn as to only give me arrows for the original shape of the bow. That whether my bow becomes large or small it knows that the bow is truly medium so will only produce medium arrows ever. Yet Seeking, a +1 enchantment will guide arrows to a target that may never be known so long as I pick the right square.

Well guess what 320000 ARROWS IN A CAN, I know what square I'm in so give me my large arrows. I'm taking BSB's BABB!

Anyway, I know this is kind of dumb since the enchantment is pretty high priced even if it does work. The only reason I'm considering it is for a divine hunter with the Growth domain. Since I'd be spending a swift action for a 1 round enlarge picking up large arrows doesn't really work well for me. So unless there is a storage technique to keep large arrows that won't grow more when you do here is a first round* work around for others with the same issue.

Mage hand a fist full of large arrows or a partial quiver if there is resistance into combat carrying them in your square, swift enlarge, grab the arrows you will fire and start firing them.

*unless you are aware of a way to keep a mage hand full of large arrows around without it blinking out. Hand of the mage maybe?

Edited for pricing fix.

My group plays that it create an arrow appropriate for its current size and does not resize when fired. It is unaffected by the enlarge person because it's a spell that creates an item.

Btw, I found the ultimate bow for this effect, Bow of Ashes. It's much cheaper than the +4 bonus the weapon would be normally (+1, flaming, endless ammo) because it has a limiter on it. I found the best way to have it activate is to have an ioun torch which has a "flame the size of a torch".
