Post-Apocalyptic Campaign Interest Check!

Recruitment

Exactly as the title asks, I am curious as to how many people would be down for a Fallout/Wasteland/Gamma World/After the Bomb-style campaign set almost 100 years after a nuclear war.

The campaign will be very Kingmaker-esque, with a hex map provided, so that PCs can forge their own path through the wasted lands.

I will be providing new equipment for PC use, as well as explaining how radiation poisoning works in this campaign. There are full-auto weapons available, as well as burst-fire weapons, so all you fellow gun freaks out there, rejoice! You can finally have your Barbarian shoulder an AR-15 and go to town on mutated critters!

The available races for play would be Human, Freak (Basically a Fallout Ghoul,), Synth (Android-like Cyborgs, sort of like Ash from Alien,), and Simian (Think Rise of the Planet of the Apes: intelligent primates who escaped from the ruined testing labs and subsequently bred a race of sentient, if still slightly below average intelligent, primates,). I MAY allow for other options, if they make sense within the context of the campaign.

As for classes, no magic classes will be allowed, period. Now things like Alchemist lose the supernatural, magical fluff, but remain the same mechanically. Full casters, however, are unplayable. Psionics will be allowed for those who desire to play a caster type character and do not want the Machinesmith or similar classes. Psions are vanishingly rare, however, so be forewarned of that regarding fluff when building one, if you go that route. Most supernatural abilities in non-caster classes can be refluffed, so don't be discouraged!

You will have the option of allowing your PC to start out with Mutations. In taking a Mutation, however, you also must take a Flaw, from a provided list, to balance it out.

Also, each PC will begin by picking a Background, which grants a list of Perks, almost like Fallout. At each level, PCs gain a new Perk, chosen from their Background list. The available backgrounds include most that you would expect from a post-apocalyptic campaign: Pre-War Historian, Doctor, Tribal, Mercenary, ect. If there is enough interest and I create the recruitment thread, I will put up a list for people to peruse.

Well, I think that covers the basics of what I was going to discuss in the interest check.

I do have one question, however. Which of the areas listed below appeal to everyone regarding the starting campaign area?

1. The Great Northern Expanse- This includes the northern states of the USA, as well as southern portions of Canada. A relatively diverse area and one of the few that are less likely to have you dying of dehydration or starvation early in the campaign.

2. The Mojave- The classic setting for post-apocalypse scenarios, but also the most desolate and deadly of them all, likely to kill you by dehydration and hunger before any mutants or raiders can get to you.

If you feel those are not interesting enough, make a suggestion! I have a lot of hex maps already made for the first three, but I am willing to let you post an alternate suggestions.

Yes, and area 1, because I live there.

The Northern Expanse sounds fun. Simian for me!

this sounds cool two of the things I never see is post apocalyptic game set in a lush green place or a big city like LA or new York...sounds cool

but ya I think I like the 1st option rather than the typical desert

So, the Northern Expanse? Sounds good! I will have the recruitments up for this and Curse of the Coral Throne later!

And I once, successfully I might add, ran 6 campaigns simultaneously on an old website and now-defunct profile, so running two is no problem at all.

EDIT: Make that 9 campaigns: Skull and Shackles, a Mythic Planescape campaign, Iron Gods, Way of the Wicked, another post-apocalyptic campaign, Jade Regent, Council of Thieves, Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition, and Carrion Crown.

This sounds amazing, count me in.

Interested also! Gunslinger? I have been wanting to try one.

Awesome-sauce!

Count me interested

The Mojave!

And the Mojave!

<Really two votes from the Same Person ... :-) Mid-Western Brotherhood of Steel Knight Apprentice Sagittarius Morrow (Morrow being a salute to The Morrow Project)>

After The Bomb?! As in the original adult TMNT that took names and showed slashed bloody body parts before they were ruined forever?

Liberty's Edge

I am interested. Having just been picked up for 2 other campaigns I'm not sure if I'd have the time, but will definitely lurk at least. I too favor the northern expanse. However, a lot of that is "high desert" so potential problems with dehydration do not go totally away.

I too am a gun nut. But keep your over-engineered AR-15/M-16/M-4 clones chambered in the substandard .223 Remington/5.56×45mm NATO round for those who are silly enough to want them. I'll take an H&K G-3 chambered in .308 Winchester/7.62x51mm NATO any day of the week.

On a more serious note, given that full/semi automatic weapons tend to burn through ammo like there's no tomorrow and modern smokeless powders can be tricky to make, it is likely that 100 years after an apocalypse that black powder weapons may have had a resurgence. In which case brass metal cartridge rounds might still be in current production, but they'd more likely be for .45 Colt (aka .45 Long Colt), .44 Special, .44 Magnum (not quite so stompy using black powder but still a respectable round), and a host of other similar calibers. Revolvers would be the mainstay for pistols with lever action and a variety of single shots (in heavier calibers) being in vogue for rifles. Large bowie knives would also come back into their own.

Semi-auto and full-auto actions would only be useable with the old smokeless ammunition by then in short supply and possibly not quite as reliable after a century or so of storage.

Black powder weapons would be easier to make without advance industrial machinery. More advance the rifle is, the more advance machinery we will need. The same with black powder and smokeless. Probably the difference between Black Powder of old and in this world is that it will be made from better metal (scrap) and probably better tooled for less chance of misfire. I think I even saw how to make a black powder rifle from scratch on the internet. I agree for ammo being in short supply only because it went bad or was destroyed during the war and not really because it was used.

Count me in! Send me a message if I don't pop over in the actual recruitment thread, I could have just spaced it.

Also interested!

Likewise intrigued

Although one thing about the Mojave setting is that there will be more book keeping in tracking all of the survival necessities and not some pretty HUD to tell us that our H20, Sleep, and Food or Protein stores are in trouble. One good thing about the Mojave and Nevada is there would be a lot of tech for us BOS types to drool over since most of Nevada is set aside for the Military and Government.

Deja Vu, I said this same thing on The Tale of Two Wastelands website.

Yep, I'm interested.

Athough PF doesn't seem an intuitive system to run this in, I can get behind the idea.

Maybe I'll make a monk, or something.

Edit: Or if I can find a spell-less inquisitor, that could be fun too.

You can if you use the correct resources and classes. You can change it up to be more technical. Take a look at my avatar's profile in how we turned a Soulknife/Psion into a MW BOS Knight (Apprentice). The most problems will be with the avatars ... lol

This one is a combination of PF, Amethyst: Renaissance (PFRPG) PDF, and maybe some GM intervention. I don't know for sure since I do not own Ameythest yet and Unamatrix's features came from the GM.

I may lean more towards Machinesmith for the steampunky feel I am getting.
