An evil inquisitor could take the trickery domain for DD. He would have decent skill points and excellent initiative and perception. A ranged build could do good reliable ranged damage with bane weapon while not being too fragile in melee. I could adapt an inquisitor like this one for such a role.
From Hell, but using the standard racial modifiers (+2 Dex, +2 Int, -2 Cha).
No problem of beeing a mercenary, but he could be serial killer (like Jigsaw on the movie Saw) that is interested in the traps inside the Emerald Spire.
Baldrek was born on the road, aboard a Varisian caravan and abandoned as soon as the caravan’s leader put his eyes on his reddish skin, little cloven hooves and long tail.
It is not known how Baldrek survived, but a couple days later he was found by Ikbalt Iorobarn, a dwarf traveler who was also a paladin of Torag. Ikbalt rescued him and took him back to his house in Davarn, on the Five Kings Mountain.
Baldrek spent most of his childhood on the temple of Torag, protected by Ikbalt even though he made the other dwarves restless. Pressured by the other dwarves, Ikbalt looked for reasons to take Baldrek out of Davarn from time to time, assigning him to the rangers. With them, Baldrek learned how to fight, hunt and set traps, and soon he started to like his new job, liking too much, especially the ones that involved blood.
Ikbalt always feared that something was wrong with Baldrek, he seemed to have no emotions at all and, after a couple of years with the rangers, he feared that his bloodlust would evolve in something wicked.
Decided to save his “son” from himself, he taught him a code by which he should guide himself. Baldrek was never fond of codes of honor but accepted; after all, he owed everything to his “father”. By Ikbalt’s code, Baldrek could never kill anything if not for self-defense, or to defend his friends and companions.
Baldrek stayed in Davarn until Ikbalt dyed, leaving right after his funeral. From Davarn he brought with him only two things: his father’s code and sledge, the only two things that he carries until today.
I changed my mind and decided to make Baldrek more like Dexter (TV series).
Here is Baldrek's description and personality... I'm open to changes if necessary!
Description:
Baldrek is a tall and muscled tiefling with a strong devil blood heritage. He has reddish and scaled skin, some small horns in his head, a strong tail, clawed feet and hands and yellow eyes. He wears an old lamellar armor made of leather, a belt filled with tools and weapons and a heavy overall with a hood to hide his horns and tail when it is necessary. Strapped in his back is his father’s old sledge that still bears Torag’s symbol.
Personality:
Baldrek is actually a sociopath that is only fully satisfied when fresh blood is drippling from his sledge that is only still free from prison because of his father’s code: He might only kill to protect his live or to protect his friends and companions. To maintain his oath and still be able to satisfy himself, Baldrek developed a kind of reckless life style, always looking for opportunities to “protect his life”. Baldrek might be a murderer, but he is not stupid nor has a death wish, thus he will not enter in a fight that he has no chance of victory.
No, the choice wasn't already made. And I had no one sending PM.
I looked at the two characters, and as always, had an hard time to choose. I never had a ninja in a game, and would have been interested to see one in action.
It was, maybe, 55/45 in favor of Baldrek.
Oh, thanks for picking me DM! Thank you so much :D
Have you planned how Baldrek will join in?
According to his background, if he hears in Fort Inevitable that a group went to the Emerald Spire, would make sense that he just went after them (looking for danger, but not entering it alone).
I was actually referring to the fact that baldrek was a more solid submission. Also the pm submission as more of a question as I have seen them before.
I had, sometimes, asked players who tried to join one of my campaigns but weren't recruited if they wanted a second chance (on the same campaign or another). Your character was solid too, Edward. But I had only one spot to fill, and it's always hard for a GM to choose between characters.
@Baldrek: still thinking about it, they are in a big fight right now, so potentially after they return to the Fort.
