Tattoo Familiar transformation range

Rules Questions

I assume it's intended that the range is touch, but it's not detailed at all how the transformation (in either direction) is limited.
Ostensibly, when leaving your body, it appears in your square (being tiny), but it doesn't also indicate that it can't transform back at range, only saying

Quote:
Transforming into a tattoo or back to normal familiar form is a move action for her familiar.

Is there any more context here? What's stopping the familiar from delivering a touch spell and then spending a move to transform (presumably returning to its master)?

Also, a tattoo familiar with the Mauler archetype:
Could it transform while in Battle Form?
If so, would it appear adjacent to the sorcerer? or would it be forced to use at least a 5ft step to leave the sorcerer's space before the end of its turn?

I've had the wife's be adjacent. But hers is small croc for our skull and shackles. She can pick which square.

Not sure of the broader question, I hit FAQ...
It would never be "forced to use a 5' step" though, as that would just be a case of invoking the standard movement rules, that if you end up in a square you're not allowed to, you are ejected to a nearby square.. not using your own actions at all.
