Body retrieval missions

Silver Crusade 1/5

Hi Mike and Mark, I know that you can spend prestige points to have your body recovered if you are killed while on a mission.

What I was wondering how this works. Does the society have a 911 team that teleports in picks up the body of the recently slain and teleports back to the nearest lodge and resurrects or raises the recently slain member that has paid for the service.

I have a Hospitaler Paladin that has Ultimate Mercy that would be perfect for such a team. I could see the society have teams like this standing by in major lodges or maybe just the grand lodge and when the newly alain distress band is activated t-porting in and picking up the body and then t-porting out.

Spoiler:
I know the Ten have the ability to do this since I have played eyes of the ten.

I'm not Mike or Mark, but I have gone on lots of missions where the party is going in after a Pathfinder who didn't report in. Do my best to bring them back, since we don't leave our own.

There are many missions that basically involve "So and so has not reported in. go find out what happened. and then finish the mission they failed."

At the very high levels, this sometimes involves a group teleport to where they were last found, but rarely do you know where they are, and when you do know where they are, it is because they are somewhere where teleporting in, grabbing the body, and teleporting out would cause an international incident.

Also, since dead pathfinders usually means someone left something undone, you are usually required to stick around and clean up their mess before bringing them back.

I have been on many missions where you are sent to find out what happened to a pathfinder, but fewer where you're actually tasked with bringing the body back. And, now that I think of it, on most of the missions where we did find a body, nobody volunteered to carry it back. I'll have to remember to start doing that.

The body recovery for prestige is done by the faction, so my guess would be it varies by faction. Silver Crusade or Liberty's Edge might go in swords swinging, depending on the situation. Exchange might hire a retrieval group or negotiate with your captors (if you aren't dead). Grand Lodge might send a group of Pathfinders (Because, let's face it, Aram Zey can't be bothered to use magic to do it unless he absolutely has to). Dark Archive might use a spell or ritual from one of their books (You don't want to know what was involved when they were Cheliax).

There's at least one scenario, and I'm sure more that either as the main mission or part of it you're asked to either...

1. Locate and rescue missing Pathfinders.

2. Retreive body of missing Pathfinder presumed deceased.

So basically for the most part, these retrievals are done by schmucks just like you. :)

2 people marked this as a favorite.

This looks like a good thread to mention my "Return to Bonekeep" idea.

Body recovery missions are pretty established - it would be awesome if we came up with a PFS scenario where YOU, the team, get to do a body recovery mission in one of the most dangerous places in the game - Bonekeep I.

I'm imagining it to be slightly random adventure (like The Confirmation or something), in that the GM will roll to determine the location(s) of the fallen PFS members. And those awful things in Bonekeep? Well, this is a few hours after the (failed) assault - so they may even have reinforcements.

Obviously this idea needs fleshed out but I think it'd be fun :)

Bring them back, Some of the newer scenarios if you bring them back (alive?) you get a free body recovery for yourself.

Actually

Spoiler:

From one way of looking at it, the entire 3 part Scions of the Sky Key was a body recovery mission for the Venture Captain Sharrowsmith.

Scarab Sages 4/5

That was the most recent one I was thinking of, and

Spoiler:
I'm trying to remember how the mission is presented. Whether it's explicitly said to bring his body back if he's not alive or just to find out what happened to him. I believe in that instance we did actually bring his body back, because we thought he might have information that we didn't. That's the only time in a while that I can remember that happening, though. Usually the group just loots the corpse like any other. I'm going to make it a point to stop doing that. It will just be a little awkward if my 8 STR gnome Investigator gets stuck being the one to volunteer to carry the body out (I know PFS rules hand wave that kind of thing. Just still a funny image). I suppose he could always brew up a STR mutagen.

Spoiler:

bringing his body out is a secondary success condition of final scenario

Scarab Sages 4/5

Ah, well there you go. I'm glad we decided to do that, then.

Isn't this basically every shadowlodge mission?
