Hi everybody, since I am about to run a couple of tech adventures in Core, I am quite curious on how to handle this situation.
Since for intents and purposes, the Technology Guide does not exist as far as Core play is concerned, I assume that this includes the requirement to have the Technology feat.
Tech items are in a weird place, since you can buy and use something like a katana from a chronicle and later buy the exotic weapon proficiency feat.
Trial by Machine actually features an NPC (without the Technologist feat) who can aid in identifying these items or do it for the group.
The chronicle actually features full reprints of the items, thus a player could use them, without ever having to get the tech guide.
So do I have a fatal flaw in my reasoning? I really want to avoid advising my players incorrectly regarding this matter.

An item that appears on one of your character's chronicle sheets is legal for that character to purchase. You can and must use the rules for that specific item from its legal source.
The Technologist feat doesn't exist in the Core campaign. Neither does its Normal clause. If a scenario describes an effect of not having the Technologist feat then the GM should run that game effect as written. Otherwise a GM can, but isn't required to, use any material to make rulings that improve the game and resolve inclarities in the Core materials.

I appreciate the input, even though I am not absolutely sure if you agree with the notion of allowing players to use the stuff (well provided they can identify it with knowledge engineering).
It doesn't matter all that much for the technology scenarios where you have an NPC who can deal with tech items, and later tech scenarios seem to have a different language regarding tech item use.

If the item is fully printed on the chronicle sheet then the sheet becomes a valid additional resource for the item.
If the item is only listed on the sheet with a source and page number then the player must provide that source to use the item.
So some items will not require the tech guide but others might.

Just like any other non-Core item or spell that is available on a Chronicle sheet. The Chronicle unlocks that specific item or items, possibly in a limited quantity, for that specific Core PC.
