Familiar troubles

Advice

I'm having a hard time figuring something out in my friends campaign that I'm in. We have already played several sessions and recently me and the dm have decided to make his npc pixie my warcraft 3 farie dragons scorerer bloodline familiar. Here's the problem though he has already put class levels into his pixie of cleric. What he is saying is his pixie pretty much gets free multi classing with the familiar level up chart but in my opinion that would make his npc way to strong and discourage anyone else from making a healing class. How ever if we do it the normal way it would dumb his character down making it useless for what it was ment for. If we tried picking things out of the familiar level up chart to use I don't see it being worth 1600 gold to do at all. Any ideas on what to do about this?

Well, if you shoved heal bot off on the pixie, you can begin to think of the cleric as something other than 'that healing class'.

There are a whole wonderful world of cleric spells that do not have teh word 'cure' in them.

Not sure how appropriate is is to make a character with class levels into your familiar though. That is for you and your table to decide if it is acceptable balance wise. If you already have this pixie hanging round, why not just add a regular familiar as well?

I know that the cleric can be way more then just the healer. If anything i would enjoy seeing a melee cleric X3 but the dm seems to think the clerics are stuck as the healing class. I've even been trying to tell them diana from league of legends is a cleric. he just says can she heal? no. then she isnt a cleric....lol.

I'll just ask the group then and see what they think then ^^ thank you. Well my character didnt have the bloodline familiar stuff till after the dm suggested that if i wanted to i could have his pixie npc as a familiar so went through a bit of work just to have the pixie as a familiar and kind of want to have it so the work wasnt wasted X3. But yea anyway thank you for the advice.

Then this looks like a time to bring out a cleric of Asmodeus... or a 'religiously themed 9 level caster that also uses melee in service for our dark judge and master'.

And you can always give all sorts of snicker inducing meanings to the 'bad touch' cleric doing debuff touch spells. Or bring the whole choir on people's heads with summon spells.

That critter shouldn't be a "familiar" at all. He can be a friend, an ally or a cohort, or simply a sympathetic NPC who tags along with the party, but not a familiar.

Are you really talking about a DM-run NPC? <gasp>
Just say no. Tell your DM friend to man up, and take something that the rules actually authorize. If he wants a familiar who is a pixie with healing powers, IIRC there is a pixie-like azata with those sorts of powers who can become a familiar after level 7 and the improved familiar feat.

You cannot "dual class" a familiar.

Thats what i was thinking to and so far she has been but not really a cohort to anyone.

yep i am and he is actually running two in the group lol the pixie cleric and a deep gnome "rogue". he said he isnt a rogue but wont tell what he actually is.

You dont know how many times i have tried to get him to follow the rules. his whole game is one big mess lol humans getting a feat every level, 60 or so point buy system, 30 or higher racial points for made up races, yea lol. actually is me wanting his pixie as the familiar but now im just thinking of just telling him either she becomes my cohort or just a familiar but no familiar benefits since she already has levels in cleric or something like that. make up some kind of bond thing between mine and the pixie lol. also he says he doesnt work for paizo and they dont pay him to follow the rules.....makes me wonder why he even uses the books then lol

yea im not wanting a beast for a npc over shadowing the players either lol
