Ability to use a Klar

If a character that isn't skilled in Shields gains the Weapon Proficiency Feat with a Klar, does this allow him to use it as a shield and gain the shield bonus for it (as a light shield)? Or does he need to also have

You can always use a shield to gain the AC bonus. If you are not proficient, you take at armor check penalty to attack rolls and skills involving movement

For a klar this is only -1.

Once you get a masterwork version of your Klar it doesnt really matter any more. It only has an armorcheckpenalty of -1 which goes away once masterworked or even enchanted (as it needs to be MW for that).

Anyway i see it that Proficiency in Klar also covers the shield-use part, and you do not need to spend two feats to properly use this item.

If you are proficient with Shields, you are proficient with the Klar. A Klar is a shield.

I guess you are right. Shield Proficiency does not give you proficiency in Shield Bashing. That requires Martial Weapons Proficiency.
