The Double Tree is on a big property and the farthest part of the hotel is a bit of a walk to the center part of the hotel where the con is held. It wasn't too bad though (I stayed in one of the farther parts of the Double Tree), but could see how it would be compared to a walk from a different hotel nearby to the Double Tree itself. I can't recall how close the other hotels are but I do know there are several in that area since its near the airport.

I think there is a days inn, Laquinta, quality inn, hampton inn, all within 500ft or so from the doubletree. look on google maps and youll see the distance.

If you are given the option to upgrade to the tower rooms, it might be worth the extra money. I stayed in the rooms farthest from the con floor and it was a 1/4 mile walk. I didn't actually mind, but it did cause me to change my plans a bit.

Dark Archive

The room I had was out in BFE, but I was able to cross the parking lot to a back door to reduce the distance to the con area.

Liberty's Edge

Do we actually *know* where the room block is in relation to the convention area this year?

Hopefully they made sure the rooms were closer this year.

I knew people who were in one of the towers right above the main hall, and people who were out near me.

Liberty's Edge

No, I meant, do we know definitively where the room block is THIS year (not last year)

Maybe they asked for the room block THIS year to be closer to the convention area.

Lantern Lodge Customer Service Manager

My understanding is that the room block is mostly just so you get the convention pricing, not based on a particular room's location in the hotel.

Umm, it looks like the hotel is completely sold out. Any alternate options, or should I cancel my Paizocon ticket?

No, the room block isn't sold out and No, you shouldn't cancel your ticket. He was having an issue getting his room but things are working for others just fine.

Hey Silbeg,

I've asked the hotel to add some additional room nights to the block for Monday so hang tight. It might take them a couple of days to get them open though (and thanks for letting us know)!

Thanks, Jeff. Any word on progress for this? We'd like to extend our stay for Monday, if possible.

Yes, the hotel should have added a small number of rooms to the block for Monday night so please check in with them again to extend your reservation. Let me know if you have any issues!

I lucked out last year -- I had a first-floor room that was literally just a couple of doors down from one of the places where they were doing some seminars, and just a half-hallway down from the coffee shop around the corner from the main event space.

If I luck out so much again this year, I'll probably start buying lottery tickets.

Don't.

Seriously.

'Room Location Luck' doesn't translate to 'Lottery Luck'. Just like 'Parking Space Luck' doesn't translate to 'Not getting Speeding Ticket when Doing 100 down Interstate with a broken Speedometer Luck'.

Luck is a Lady whose smile is as cold as a stone...

Separate Note: Do NOT buy lottery tickets in the State of Illinois. The state hasn't come to a budget for almost a year now, and they've had to stop paying out winners save for smaller amounts and the contractually obligated multi-state versions.

(I know -- it's a joke / cliché.)

(Besides, luck isn't a real thing other than, as Spock says, "random chance appears to have operated in our favor".)

(Remember: it's bad luck to be superstitious.)

Any news on additional special guests for this year's PaizoCon?

My room last year was WAAAYY out. My watch showed that I walked about 4-5 miles per day between walks to room, get food, etc. I'll not be going this year but will be at GenCon.

The NOLA krewe will be much reduced this year...

And the only good thing about the rooms in wing 5B was that the Canadian Border Guards always had a water for you when you hit the crossing at room 578...

Also being trust worthy is a must I really don't want to end up with someone taking off with my valuables.

I'm set for the 27-31st at the moment considering dropping the 31 depending on what events and or games are still going monday. Because don't want to drive home at night for 5 hrs.

Is it safe to assume that with the overwhelming success of the Humble Bundle, and perhaps other factors, that we may not see a schedule until close to the 4th of April?

Lantern Lodge Customer Service Manager

That is much farther out than I hope. But current ETA is unknown.

If it does take to 4th April or beyond, I can cope, it will be after Easter and so I will have a plentiful supply of chocolate to keep me placated! ;)

So Paizo, if you want spare chocolate from the UK made available to staff at Paizocon, it's now in your interest to make sure I am engaged with schedule selections over eating the supply! :P

Plus, if I fill my travel bag with chocolate for you lot, I then get lots of spare space for shop goodies too - win win! ;)

Don't believe I've had UK chocolate. But European chocolate is amazing. My family is from Netherlands. Haven't been back since 1996 but candy and pastries in general there beat anything we have here in US. I miss it... I think I gained like 50 lbs when I was there last time.lol

Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Most European chocolate and candy is awesome, because they tend to use much better ingredients to make it than here in the States.

Far too many candy companies cut corners with cheap sweeteners (several of them make me quite ill) which pointed me towards imported chocolate years ago...

I might have the odd bar or two with me each convention day, so if you seek me out and my supply hasn't run out (or I failed my Will vs Resist Chocolate DC), you may sample some Galaxy - or if you are really lucky, I may even have some mini Lindt bunnies left over from Easter!

Basically, because I am seriously dieting and exercising now, I will be putting all my chocolate gifts into the Paizocon supply for you all to save me by eating it for me.

I know Paizocon will be a struggle with a banquet and nearby Thai food and the Crab Pot restaurant and your wonderful smokey BBQ restaurants, so I am giving away the chocolate to feel less guilty about all the other food :D

In case you are wondering, since July last year, I have swum the equivalent of the English Channel 5 times already and have lost steadily a small amount of weight weekly, now totalling 30 lbs. gone in a healthly way (just under 1 lb. a week - but it was higher, it's just that time spans Christmas food time! >.<)

I need to lose about the same again to get back to my marriage weight of 32 years ago ;) - ambitious, but I am half way there.

There's a nearby Thai food place???? Awesome! How close to the hotel? Anyone have a name or more info? :)

While we're on the topic of food: what is one Seattle restaurant that an East Coast fella like myself just has to try?

The Crab Pot - has a Man vs Food Crab platter challenge that looked awesome on the show.

The Thai place is almost directly opposite the hotel, you just have to cross the road and walk about 2 minutes or so looking on google maps. It's this one. Recommended to me by Monica Marlowe - RPG Superstar winner.

Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Okay, for those of us that have issues with shellfish and aren't super-keen on Thai, what's 'local' but not 'chain'?

Liberty's Edge RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32, 2011 Top 16

I recommend Din Tai Fung. Amazing Taiwanese dumplings. While it's technically a chain, there's only 4 locations in the USA, the rest are in Asia. It's not exactly close to the convention, but worth the trip. By next year's con, they're opening a downtown location, and there may be one open in the mall 5 minutes from the convention by then as well.

SOON PAINLORD WILL RIVAL SLANKYONE FOR SHOUTING AT MUSHROOMS. IT IS KNOWN.

Speaking of food paizo people should do a pathfinder cook off contest and attendees are the judges. They can come up with foods from the world of Glorian as they think it would be...

Just a suggestion...
