Anybody else find strange the fact that fighter/barbarian/ranger ecc. VMC doesn't give any kind of weapon proficiency?
I mean, it's kinda one of the basic aspect of multiclassing and seems to me a pretty glaring oversight. I understand why armor proficiency is not given away, since classes that lacks them generally do so for specific reasons, but martial weapon proficiency seems to me a pretty basic requirment for a "half fighter".

Not really. VMC is generally about giving scaling class features, which pretty much the antithesis of getting weapon proficiencies.

VMC and standard multiclassing are very different animals, so the "basic aspects" of one aren't necessarily-- and honestly, shouldn't be reflected in the other.

I like them how they are.

If you want to have early entry to Eldritch Knight, just VMC Battle Oracle.

I'm firmly in the camp that VMC fighter should have been able to fulfill EK prerequisites, and definetly better than VMC oracle at doing so. Wishfull thinking i guess.

Why?

VMC Wizard doesn't fulfill EK prereqs either, and there was no realistic way to allow that. So why should Fighter?

I think the VMC is of too narrow a scope. And would have liked it to have options to include stuff like weapon and armor profs. figther could have recived a little at level 3 when they get bravery:)

I don't have a big issue with it either way. My group seems to be enjoying the vmc opportunities quite nicely. My vanguard slayer vmc magus is enjoying his additional bonuses in battle.
It gives me something to work with other than sneak attack, dirty trick, and intimidate.

if you're going to give up a bunch of feats for the purpose of gaining weapon proficiency, just take weapon proficiency feats instead.

Unfortunately, you'd have to take half a thousand feats to meet EKs prerequisites that way. You need proficiency in all martial weapons, which each require one feat.

That being said, I don't think VMC Fighter should allow a caster to go into EK with only 1 caster level loss from the first level of EK.

VMC Oracle does allow precisely this, for the record.

Yeah, I saw. I don't think that should allow full caster into Eldritch Knight, either, for what it is worth. But it obviously does.

Eh, then again, EK could probably use the boost.

Yes, but is stupid that a Wizard/oracle can qualify for EK, but a Wiz/fighter can't.
