Desmond checks the door in the corner and moves through. Bookshelves line the walls of this room, packed with any number of volumes, scrolls, and folios. In the center of the room and resting on a large colorful rug is a table covered with maps, papers, and writing implements.

This area immediately gives the impression of being in regular use. The maps depict the division of territories and nations prior to the fall of the Lung Wa empire. The papers are examples of recent attempts to practice calligraphy, as indicated by the relative freshness of the parchment and inks. Finally, the books cover a range of different topics from art and philosophy, to economics and military strategy.

At Desmond's suggestion the party moves into the next room. This spacious bedroom is finely appointed, with luxurious futon in the southeastern corner. Alongside it sits a writing desk with several ledgers and record books on top of it. To the northwest sits an enormous bathtub, almost the size of a vat. The furnishings in the room are intact and of good quality, but the scent of vinegar is almost overpowering.

Standing in the room beside the desk is the lithe figure of the woman Desmond spoke to at the inn. "Ah, there you are. I saw that Dagagal gave you some troubles. Truly sorry what happened to you-and to him."

"Why are you here, sweety?" she asks seductively to Desmond, "Such a strong man, you've come wielding your weapons rather than a rose." The woman calmly begins sway her shoulders as he skin slowly falls from her body like a robe. Within a few seconds her head and internal organs have separated from their fleshy shell. "Don’t presume to judge me. Countless others have done worse to secure their immortality. How many murders buy a single vial of sun orchid elixir? Or do you seek the Way of the Kirin?"

She glances up briefly and the party notices for the first time a tiny shrunken head floating above the doorway.

"Either way. . . "

Without hesitation Peri casts Haste on her allies again.

I am unable to see the map while at work. Just keep me away from the floating head.

Haste:
When making a full attack action, a hasted creature may make one extra attack with one natural or manufactured weapon. The attack is made using the creature's full base attack bonus, plus any modifiers appropriate to the situation. (This effect is not cumulative with similar effects, such as that provided by a speed weapon, nor does it actually grant an extra action, so you can't use it to cast a second spell or otherwise take an extra action in the round.)

A hasted creature gains a +1 bonus on attack rolls and a +1 dodge bonus to AC and Reflex saves. Any condition that makes you lose your Dexterity bonus to Armor Class (if any) also makes you lose dodge bonuses.

All of the hasted creature's modes of movement (including land movement, burrow, climb, fly, and swim) increase by 30 feet, to a maximum of twice the subject's normal speed using that form of movement. This increase counts as an enhancement bonus, and it affects the creature's jumping distance as normal for increased speed. Multiple haste effects don't stack. Haste dispels and counters slow.

DC 23 KN (religion):
This is a penanggalen. It is an augmented humanoid undead. She has DR/silver and slashing.

DC 28 KN (religion):
Penanggalens have resistance to cold and fire but suffer from light sensitivity.

During the day, a penanggalen has the same appearance as she did in life, and does not detect as undead (though she is still an undead creature). At night, she can detach her head and entrails as a full-round action. Her physical but now hollow body exists as dead flesh, and can be destroyed if it suffers damage equal to the penanggalen’s normal hit point total. Before a penanggalen can return to her body, she must soak her entrails in vinegar for 1 hour—she can then reattach to her body, at which point any damage done to the body immediately heals (although damage the penanggalen herself suffered remains). A penanggalen whose body is destroyed can never again walk the day in living form, but is otherwise unharmed (save for no longer having a safe way to travel in direct sunlight). When a penanggalen wears her body, she cannot use her natural attacks, her fly speed, or any of her special penanggalen attacks.

DC 32 KN (religion):
When a penanggalen slays a female humanoid via blood drain who had at least 10 Hit Dice in life, that slain humanoid rises as a manananggal at the next sunset. This manananggal is under the command of the penanggalen who created it, and remains enslaved until that penanggalen’s destruction. A penanggalen may have enslaved spawn totalling no more than twice its own Hit Dice; any spawn it creates that would exceed this limit become free-willed undead.

Sahar swings her longsword at the strange creature!

Attack:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

Seriously, these dice...

The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

Sorry, the snowball didn't hit. I rolled the Fort on accident. And nope, no save on what the head just did. Also I forgot that Minasako would have healed a little bit on her turn.

Kyra slashes at the head as it moves in but it dodges away. She then channels to hurt the two creatures.

Head: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Minasako: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22

The holy energy seems to have hurt Minasako a bit, but the head remained unaffected (improved evasion). Peri turns Desmond invisible and Desmond swings through the mist but misses her. Even if she's FF and giving Desmond a +2 from attacking out of invisibility. Sahar swings her longsword but cannot hit.

Minasako calls her head to her and then blindly lashes out at Sahar.

bite: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11

Wither:
A penanggalen’s entrails drip with a foul bile that blisters and weakens living flesh. Any creature that is damaged by a penanggalen’s slam attack must succeed at a DC 20 Fortitude save or take 1d4 ⇒ 2 Dexterity and 1d4 ⇒ 4 Charisma damage.

Desmond takes a careful step into the corner of the room before barking, "Sahrek, attack this...thing!"

Handle Animal vs. DC 10: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Sahrek charges at the woman-thing and tries to bite ferociously.

Charge Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 2 + 1 = 25
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Miss Chance (High is Good): 1d100 ⇒ 74

Trip Attempt (if the Attack hit): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

Once Sahrek has had his fun, Desmond takes another swing at the arcane monster.

Cold Iron Attack: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 10 + 1 = 17 (Maybe vs. Prone?)
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 2) + 6 = 14

I forgot to roll the miss chance for Desmond's attack.

Miss Chance (High is Good): 1d100 ⇒ 83

The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

I believe that was Sahar's second attack from last round, right? So no miss chance on that.

Sahar is able to get a good hit in on Minasako, although it doesn't seem to do much damage to her.

damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Sahrek rushes in to his master's side but is only able to do a little bit of damage and is unable to trip her. Peri turns Desmond invisible again and he is finally able to get a good smack on her, although his sword doesn't seem to be doing as much.

The familiar made the save and has improved evasion, although I just realized that's only for Ref saves. So yes, it did take some of that channel damage last round.

Kirah sends a searing bolt of divine energy at the creature and hits it!

Way to go Sahar!!!

Out of combat!

Minasako: at -6 and blinded

Along with several keys and the Way of the Kirin records located here, you can also find Minasako’s journal.

journal:
Minasako Himiju was a prominent member of an organization known as the Way of the Kirin. She administrated the Way’s interests in her homeland. But in 7106 ic (4606 ar), the vast empire of Lung Wa collapsed, and Minasako saw many members of the Way of the Kirin killed or subsumed by other groups in the ensuing chaos. She maintained her personal wealth and influence from Minkai, which remained relatively stable through Lung Wa’s collapse. With so many of her allies and colleagues unable to continue carrying out the Way’s work, she quietly obsessed over rebuilding the organization, whose tenets of social and economic justice she so believed in. Her dedication to this goal was so consuming that it drove her to the point of madness.

Desperate to return the Way to its former glory, Minasako sought out a local wise-woman named Garrigai who had once offered her the means to cheat death, as she believed that given enough time, she could serve as an anchor for her scattered brethren and bring the Way of the Kirin back into prominence. Minasako’s drive to save the Way of the Kirin eventually led her to betray every principle that defined the it, and in the end, she performed a lengthy ritual to transform into an undying abomination called a penanggalen—a vile mix between a vampire and a lich. The ritual demanded that Minasako cast aside former friends and lovers and feed upon the degradation and slaughter of the common folk she once fought to protect. One black night Minasako achieved her goal of living forever; she has since remained eternally young and beautiful by day, but is damned to feed upon the helpless as a bodiless mass of organs during the night.

As she fell to evil and began seeking victims for the final stages of her transformation, Minasako masqueraded as a local boogeyman to frighten and discourage intruders to her manor house, called Hinojai, spreading rumors that the place was haunted. Ironically, after her “ascension,” rumor became fact. The carefully cultivated suffering of her victims tore at the walls between life and death and created a true haunting. She no longer cared what people thought but deepened Hinojai’s reputation as a haunted house to keep her lair safe. Minasako has recently adopted an alter ego so she might walk freely in the local community without being connected to a woman believed dead for the last century. And thus she has continued for nearly a hundred years, her sole confidante a wayang wizard named Dagagal, who works to keep the foolish, the greedy, and the curious away from Hinojai. Ever cognizant of the potential consequences of a killing spree in the area, the penanggalen feeds only when necessary, alternating her unwholesome appetites between various surrounding villages.

There is still the room in the basement that needs to be dealt with, since your mission involved clearing the whole house.
