question tieflings, chronicle sheets and being pfs legal

Pathfinder Society

hi folks,

so i played a tiefling before august '14. he was within my first three games.
can i use my first three remakes to make a different tiefling who is PFS legal.
how would anyone know from just looking at my chronicle sheets, as all they have is a character name.

sorry if people have asked this question before, couldn't see anything in the threads...

If you played your tiefling character in a game before 14 August 2014 (and he was legal when created) then he is still legal.

As long as he hasn't been played at 2nd level or above, then you can use the 1st-level character retraining rules to change any aspects of your PC. You can keep his race as tiefling. As soon as your PC is played at 2nd level or above, those free retraining rules are no longer available to you.

I believe that if you retrain your tiefling to another race (e.g. elf) then you wouldn't be able to retrain back to tiefling (after his next adventure but still before 2nd level) as it's no longer a legal race choice for a new character.

This is all only tracked by an honour system: advise your next GM of the situation so he is aware that you've done some retraining but kept your existing 'grandfathered' race.

fab, thanks paz!

You also cannot retrain into a different kind of tiefling.

We should be using the word "rebuild", if we're talking about 1st level, and not "retrain", as that was a mechanic introduced in Ultimate Campaign.

Just so we're not confusing anyone that may be reading this thread now or years down the line.

Retrain is the word used in the GtPFSOP, even for 1st level:

Changes may only be made between adventures and before playing as a character above 1st level. Any exceptions will be noted in the Pathfinder Society FAQ. You are able to keep all treasure, Prestige Points, special boons, and XP that you have earned and apply them to the character once you retrain as long as the character meets the criteria above.

Do you mean a different heritage? The posts from Yiroep, TOZ, and John Compton in this exchange imply otherwise.

*facepalm*

Nevermind, then.

That should really be changed, though.
