Can Rods be upgraded

Rules Questions

Silver Crusade

If a character has a Lesser Rod of some kind, can it be upgraded to a regular Rod, or to a Greater Rod of the same type?

I don't see why not. You can do similar things with every other magical item out there.

There's no strict RAW provision for this, but there's precious little reason not to allow it.

I am thinking PFS, so there may be additional problems.

The rule you are looking for is on CRB p553 under "Adding New Abilities". You can upgrade a Lesser Rod by paying the difference between the lesser form and the superior form.

Note: PFS has it's own special rules that may prevent this.

Thx Gauss, I was hoping I would not have to dig through the entire Pathfinder Guide to find this out, but it is not looking good.

Your Fame has to allow for the full purchase price.

Your answer is actually Stickied to the top of the PFS forum, first post.

I also made an updated version of that Q&A list, but since the old thread had so much commentary it remained.

TL;DR no, you cannot upgrade a "lesser" item to a "greater" item in PFS.
