I really do think trying to explain Superman is the issue. When Superman is in your universe it also ups the level of a cross over event. It's the challenge every Justice League writer runs into face first.

It has to be beyond the scope of "This looks like a job for Superman"

I thought they did a pretty good job in this episode though. Neither Kara or Clark would have been able to save that building... One needed to hold it while they other repaired it.

I also stand by that LoT takes place in the Arrowverse. Rip has commented on both the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight... not to mention Thanagar. therefore They're around... or will be around. They may still be in 'red/blue blur' stages somewhere and keeping their heads down... but DC is DC. If there are superpowered aliens running around, they won't need any more explaination than Dark and gritty street Arrow suddently having magical buddies like Constantine, time travel, reincarnation etc. etc.

Every season the world gets bigger and bigger

I wish Constantine would come back. Matt Ryan was awesome. :)

THEY SHOWED MISS MARTIAN WHERE?

RPG Superstar 2009 Top 16

Well you get to hear him in Justice League Dark.

That's who I THOUGHT was going to be in the latest Kryptonian capsule to land on Earth.

That was my thought too. But so we can hope she will be the Kryptonian in the Arrowverse^^

Drah,

No we got the Daxamite instead.

Also if Superman had been around in Arrowverse, I'd say he could have disabled MOST of those missiles. Or at least stopped more than 50% of them.

I have a feeling he's going to be retconned as a Kryptonian... either that, or we're going to see the storyline progressing for us to meet a certain 30th century superteam... and boyfriend, considering the field is clear now that Olsen's been dumped.

Also I liked that too but it would have made me squee to hear John William's score as Clark changed.

Sorry, was working on a press release.

Yes, it always amazes me listening to Amazon Prime music when the rotation jumps from Superman to Man of Steel. So much uplifting to so dark...

Is it just me, or the sound cuts off in the last 10 seconds of the video. Just after you mention miss martian.

I dunno Hama. What I do know is so far there's no sign of her in the first 3-4 episodes that I'm aware of.

Also I think Daxamite might stay if only because it allows for a chance to have Lead Poisoning as a better way to kill Super people.

Mark,
I know but it's not quite the same...

Kriesberg hinted that there may be more than one Legionaire in the future (heh) of the show. I desperately hope to see Brainy, as I love Kara/Brainy so much.

So maybe in a season or two the show's setting gets transferred to 30th century Metropolis?

I don't think I'd want her permanently in the future, maybe for a season arc, but not forever. A live action adaptation of the Great Darkness Saga would be a thing to behold...

I think maybe in two seasons, once Kara figures out this reporter idea isn't working for her.

That and probably fixing up Cadmus and you know fighting Lena Luthor.

I wasn't seriously suggesting that it would happen.

Well it's a good idea regardless, Drah.

Scarab Sages

Some good fight scenes in Monday's episode. Loved the scenes with Supes and Martian Manhunter.

The show's budget seems a lot higher then last season.

There's probably saving a ton of money by dumping Calista.

I'm gonna miss Cat. Such brilliant levels of Snark hope she still gets the occasional guest shot

From what I've read, they spent a lot of their budget last year on licensing costs. For whatever reason, they had to pay to include certain DC IP on CBS that they don't have to pay for on the CW.

Liberty's Edge RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32, 2011 Top 16

They didn't dump Calistra, she didn't want to leave Los Angeles to shoot in Vancouver, so Cat's a recurring character this year. They are probably saving a ton though shooting in Vancouver compared to LA.

Joel,

She's not the Goddess of Lust, Revenge and Secrets. She's Calista, not Calistra.

But yes, she didn't want to leave LA. That's fine if weird. I still think she'll guest star/re-occur.

Also I think the budget opened up with the move AND probably less CBS paperwork to deal with now on CW.

I had read she wanted a job in LA so she could spend more time with her children - and shooting elsewhere would prevent that. Makes sense to me if that's your priority. I don't think it's weird at all.

Guess my muscle memory for typing is far more used to the goddess of lust revenge and secrets. :)

Joel,

I think the former is true and the latter. I never meant weird as bad. Just weird when you consider how often OTHER high paid actresses often spend away from their kids *CoughJolieCough*

So what's everyone's verdict of this episode?

Scarab Sages

I'm not sure why, but the episode did not show up on my TV schedule last night. Instead, Monday Night Football showed up. It was.....weird. So it looks like I'll miss this episode, because I don't really care enough to watch it on my computer.

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32, 2010 Top 8

Just got done watching it. I enjoyed it. A little too anvilicious in spots, but the cameo was wonderful, as was the "you should see my other plane' line.

As to <redacted> Durilian maybe? I know they're shapeshifters

Sovereign Court

Ok, what am I missing?

Spoiler:
Who is the president lady?

Oh I know who she is, but she is not playing and ageing Wonder Woman here......oh. Silly me. I get it.

Matthew,

I think he meant character wise. At least I HOPE he meant character wise.

To answer your question, Hama, no one knows for sure other than she's the president AND as Matthew speculated, she might be a Durlan.

I have no clear idea why but apparently people are now shipping Maggie Sawyer and Alex Danvers. Not that I'm complaining but I always thought Maggie was better with Kate Kane.

The episode seemed overly political given the current discourse about immigration in the US. It's not the first time a superhero show (or CW show, for that matter) has attempted to be topical on social or political issues, but this seemed so on-the-nose. I wonder how the pro-immigrant message went over with Trump supporters?

Mark,

I imagine they had apoplectic brain aneurysms.

It managed to send a bit of a mixed message with Snapper Carr. Apparently we're supposed to hate the guy because he wants there to be an actual story before writing the headline, and because he wants reporters to report the facts instead of clubbing the reader over the head with opinions.

Snapper Carr isn't someone I put a lot of interest into, even before he joined this show, Norman.

But thanks.

Hama, probably not. Mark though is nicer than I am.

Well, I thought a little too much of this past episode was just a little bit too much on the nose for my tastes.

Didn't care for Lynda Carter's performance very much and the whole "see my other jet <insert hammy wink here>" bit at the end grated.

I did like Mon-El a bunch, and was surprised by M'gann's appearance - I hadn't caught the buzz around her and that proved to be a pleasant reveal. I just hope with all the new players Winn and Jimmy don't continue to get short shrift like they have these first 3 episodes.

Dal,

Winn will probably start romancing Kara after failing with Mon-El.

Jimmy I think is destined for second tier status in this show.

I liked Lynda's performance.

Sovereign Court

I liked Snapper Carr, he is no-nonsense, and knows what he wants.

Does make me wonder if we're going to see this President blatantly violate various laws national security on and get a pass on it because she's part of the system.

Actually Jimmy's got a bigger destiny later in the season.

Spoiler:
It was recently announced that he'll be taking on the mantle of the Guardian, and that Winn will be helping him. Of course, he doesn't tell Kara, so when they meet awkwardness will certainly ensue.

It is a work of fiction, so conspiracy theories seem like a better fit on the show than they do in the real world.

Joel,

I was aware of this but didn't say anything because I was unclear how it would roll together.

Matthew,

I am more curious if this will feed indirectly to the Dominators story line via the fact the president is an alien AND might be sympathetic to their ideology.

True, they'd not need nearly as much evidence as exists in the real world.

I like this episode despite the political sledgehammers. It is very interesting development to have aliens treated as full American citizens. She did say they would have full league rights...which I would guess means that the agency the work for are going to have to change.

I do find a couple of things to be ironic...

- like they making out to be a bad guy the only journalist there that understand what the media should be doing.

- how the episode is all about the rights of aliens...and than a hero uses police brutality to try to get the key info out of one.

I don't think they were trying to paint him as the bad guy. He did smile in the end.

Sometimes you have to do a bad thing so that people live.

Also Snapper Carr barely rates as an annoyance on my bad-ness scale.

As for what Alex did...meh. She's never been one to be subtle.
