Dangers of a Forgotten Past Awakened in the Deep

When hobgoblin raiders kidnap a caravan full of workers and supplies, the adventurers set off to get them all back. But neither the raiders nor the adventurers know what terrifying horrors await them in the depths of their cavern hideout. Now, the adventurers must risk it all to prevent the minions of an ancient enemy from visiting death and destruction upon the land. Can the heroes rescue the captives from the hobgoblins and deliver them from this ancient foe—or will they all perish, ushering in the rise of a forgotten deity?

Rescue from Tyrkaven is the first adventure module in Jon Brazer Enterprises’ Deadly Delves series for the Fifth Edition of the World’s Oldest Fantasy Roleplaying Game. This 19-page adventure is designed to challenge four to five 2nd-level adventurers who thirst for heroics… but they may find more than they bargained for in the process! Inside this volume, you’ll find:

  • 8 fully-developed monsters for your Fifth Edition campaign
  • A sinister new magic item, the book of dark obedience, that can set your adventurers onto an entirely new campaign
  • A full-color map of the caverns from which the hobgoblins terrorize the locals
  • Enough content to get a group of 2nd-level adventurers to 3rd level, with ideas to extend the story even further once you’re done exploring the caves

Dangers Unknown. Treasures Untold. Adventure Awaits.

Thanks Dale! This looks interesting and I am going to have to go check it out.

What, would you say, would be the obstacles to releasing this kind of material with dual compatibility, you know with a sort of side by side, this is for Pathfinder, this is for the worlds oldest role playing game, sort of listings?

Hey Terquem,

Deadly Delves: Rescue from Tyrkaven is already available for Pathfinder at DriveThruRPG/RPGNow, Paizo, and d20pfsrd.

We don't like to dual stat products. We prefer to release each version tailored to the specific game's mechanics. Sometimes this means adding more or taking away monsters, adding additional or removing some encounters, or possibly even modifying the flavor of the adventure itself, depending on the system.

Grabbed a copy. Thanks, dale.

I realise it's early days, but a hard copy (even "just" print on demand) would make this even better. Nonetheless, it's great to see this get off the ground..

Does this mean that you might be making more products focused on the newest edition?

That is to say, unique to them and not made for Pathfinder.

While I am not going to say, "yes we are working on X" at this point in time (because if I do say that and for whatever reason it doesn't happen, we have a vaporware, which is something I work hard at keeping from happening), I will share with you my thinking at the moment.

Short term: We don't know exactly how big the 5e market is. Over the past year (or longer if you count the playtest) we've heard plenty of people say they want more material that no one, not even Wizards, is providing and plenty of others that say, "No one has played every option in the PHB yet," which is a tangent worthy of its own thread in itself. Plus we don't know how many people support the idea of compatible material but only play adventure's league and ... etc. So, we're testing the waters. Guiding principle on a test product for an unknown market is always to keep costs as low as possible. So we'll probably do a few more test products that will mainly consist of existing material being converted over.

Long term: The field is wide open. To understate it, Pathfinder is a very overcrowded market. These days we stick to two areas that are, IMO, less crowded: races and adventures. While this is great, it can also be creatively limiting. So if I get an idea for an awesome fighter archetype that has nothing to do with any race in particular, it is going to be hard to generate interest for it. So if gamers show enough interest, we could spread out creative wings in 5e that you don't see us doing in Pathfinder.

That's not to say that an idea won't strike me tomorrow and we release something brand new for 5e in June or we're converting over existing material 3 years from now, but that's the general thinking.

It's on my after PaizoCon to-do list. And thank you.

Thank you for the response. I am keenly interested in the 5th edition offerings that are coming from third parties, and it seems that you are amidst those at the forefront of this movement.
