Time to guess what next AP will be.

So I've been reading the thread on what everybody wants the next AP after Hell's Rebels to be. And that's all good and well but the choice has already been made and is going to be announced in about two weeks. The Paizo Dev's have been quietly dropping clues mostly about what it's not going to be for some time now. So lets put our collective knowledge together and guess what it will be before the big announcement at Paizo con.

We need to guess Location and Theme.

So to start the discussion I heard in an Erik Mona Podcast last dec that it is not going to involve the new Occult book in any way so that probably eliminates Vudra as the location and Psychic as the theme.

Yeah, but it doesn't mean the AP after that one will be Occult related...I hope. As for the one that is after Hell's Rebels, that is a good question. It would more then likely be an experimental AP but still located within the Inner Sea.

What areas in the Inner Sea haven't been used in an AP yet?

Don't forget that we are conspicuously getting the Distant Shores Gazetteer soon.

Galt. Rahadoum. Thuvia. Absolom (presumably reserved for PFS). Andoran. Taldor (it's minor role in RoW doesn't really count). Isger. Nidal. Nirmathas. Molthune. Lastwall. Druma.

From memory re: Inner Sea region, not counting the outlying parts.

I think after Giantslayer and Hell's Rebels, we might get something more off the beaten path again.

While still hoping for a Vudra Ap with plenty "impossible" things going on, I agree with the off the beaten path chance.
- low tech
- exploratory
- resource scarcity/harsh environment

Resource scarcity would be a welcome change of pace.

Yes I agree that the Distant Shores gazetteer could be a hint that we might get to leave the inner sea region for at least a part of it. And it is time for something experimental after 2 safer choices in a row.

DISTANT ... WORLDS!

A new Mythic setting in Vudra taking on the tone of an over-the-top Bollywood production.

Oh wait, that's just wishful thinking on my part.

Possibly an expansion on Arcadia...

With optional rules on scarcity: conjure food/water not working, same with sustenance style items, long range teleportation blocked, scrying minimal, endure elements minutes/level or reduced effect, focus on preparation. Without making it a tedious checklist. Using those knowledge nature, engineering, survival, track.

Now that would be an off the beaten path AP.

Winter 2016: Liberty's Crown (The Perils of Freedom - better as an issue title) - a civil war style Andoran AP.

Gen Con 2016: Cull of the Caulborn

Not sure what you mean by Cull of the Caulborn but I think the Andoran one unlikely because Hell's Rebels is a resistance fighter/civil war theme and I don't think they will go their 2 AP's in a row. Which probably also eliminates anything involving Galt.

You're quite right ladydragona, but sounded cool :)

Cull of the Caulborn would be set in Varisia. That's all I'll say.

One that sounds like a heck of a lot of fun. Especially with all the reboot films making the rounds, time to queue up some Road Warrior/Beyond Thunderdome/Fury Road and get to it!

Making skills other than Disable Device, Knowledge and Perception of significant value in an AP. I like it.

However unlikely this sort of thing might happen, I would surmise that it would take place in either the Mana Wastes (probably far from Alkenstar) or some backwoods/cursed region of Rahadoum.

Old cliché with a new twist, you start in a far off land and end up in Varisia at the end of the AP;)

Am I the only one who sees this in my mind's eye everytime I read Dragon78's name?

I would love to see an AP set in Kaer Maga. There are untold depths left to be explored beneath the Asylum Stone.

I would peg this as unlikely, since it seems like Hell's Rebels will have a large city/intrigue focus already.

The devs have been very tight-lipped about the next AP. There were hints about several of the others before- generalities of intent if not specifics (I noted many references to something involving orcs and Belkzen prior to Giantslayer, for instance), but I haven't seen much of anything about the post-Hell's Rebels AP.

I'm very, very curious.

Your right, they usually have hints by now, unless we have somehow missed them.

The only hints I can remember is what I mentioned in the beginning of this thread. Erik Mona did an interview sometime around thanksgiving on the new Occult adventures book but during it he stated that occult was not the topic of the next AP and that the subject was something special. What that implies is vague I have been looking for that podcast but haven't been able to find it. I think he did it with Brandon Hodge.

Also their were a few mentions at the Gencon press conference last year on what it is not going to be. No Mythic, no Vudra etc. I was hoping some of you all would have heard some hints that I hadn't.

Geb has invaded Alkenstar and its up to you, the quasi mutants of the Nexian wastelands to protect your homeland from zombies with sniper rifles.

Nice idea, except for one problem: Judging from reading these messageboards and several guides, everybody has been conditioned to expect Wealth By Level as an entitlement . . . .

I have NO idea...but Alkenstar could be a little off the beaten track...and you could fashion something a little non-traditional with the right twists.

I suppose you could a complete underground AP in the Five Kings Mountain area?

Maybe you end up in the Eye of Abendego and have an AP with the results? Maybe it sinks you and you end up having to explore the seas of Golarion and a completely underwater AP?

Hermea could be an interesting AP if explored. Perhaps an evil aligned AP in which evil is good and good is evil? By that I mean, though society is all for the good of people, perhaps it keeps that up by intolerant and militant restrictions that do not let people have freedom...and hence an undercurrent to overthrow that domination of good?

Of course, that's getting very close to a rebellion type idea and perhaps a little close to the upcoming AP to really be there...

But then again, I have no idea what the next AP would be.

Was it this Know Direction podcast?

It's possible we have gotten hints, it's just no one has picked up on them.

Also it seems like some of the Occult-related books have been pushed back, which might in turn have pushed back relevant CS/PC books beyond the point that the store lists them.

Yes Cthulhudrew that is the interview let me listen to it again and I will quote what he said here.

Ok I relistened to the interview and he talks about it right at the 1 hour and 2 minute mark.

Basically he implys without saying anything specific that whatever the topic for the next AP is better than using it to help push their new occult book he sounds really exited about it so I am really stoked to find out what it is.

Ladydragona, that only makes me even more curious about what it could be.

Given the surprising lack of the customary teasers thus far, perhaps an Unchained AP is forthcoming. Only 4 classes allowed. All the class level'd baddies are Unchained Classes. Dogs and cats, living together. Mass Hysteria!! ;)

I'd say it has something to do with Distant Shores.

I'm pretty sure we HAVE dropped a few hints here and there... but I can and have said this:

Distant Shores has pretty much nothing to do with the next AP.

In any event... we'll announce it at PaizoCon. Which is less than 2 weeks away. I'm pretty sure the first we'll say of it will be at the banquet, and then the next day we'll have more details in some seminars.

EDIT: I do predict some folks will be gobsmacked by the AP. Others will be delighted. Others will be disappointed. Others will be sad. Hopefully most folks will be intrigued and excited about this AP, which, I would say, would indeed fall into the category of (REDACTED) so there's that.

Dibs on Distant Worlds AP. Lazor gunslingers vs. Eox. This will gobsmack everybody, delight some, disappoint others, make Sincubus very sad and it's totally (REDACTED).

Well I think that pretty much implies we are going experimental this time if some will be thrilled and some disappointed. So now at least we know that.

Perhaps... although I'd hardly call Giantslayer experimental, and there were plenty of people who were both thrilled and disappointed by that one.

Time will tell... in less than TWO WEEKS!

I wasn't disappointed with Giants. I like Giants. I like Dragons even more. But I wonder if that's to much to hope for.

That teasing sparks my interest. I love when APs mix things up. Iron Gods was probably my favorite AP.

I think Darklands is a good guess. The RPG Superstar module will be out around the same time, and they often like to tie those into the AP, like Daughters of Fury being tangentially related to Giantslayer. (Well, it has orcs in it.)

I remember hints at Sutter? working on a book dealing either with the topic of the Eldest or the First World in general. So maybe something dealing with Fey and First World Shenanigans?

Were/when did you hear that MMCJawa?

I believe he's referring to this thread.

Wow that thread was awhile ago, had forgotten about that one.

I have a feeling it's going to be Varisia again. Idk if I can handle another foray there, though it has admittedly been awhile.

Don't even joke about it being Varisia again:(
