Knife User Advice Needed

Advice

Ok so my friend wants to make a character who specializes in using a knife, well many knives really but basically an expert in hiding the knives all over his body and able to use them with great effect. This includes throwing them over a distance, using them to attack at close range/sneak attack maybe, but overall a knife fighter who focuses on acrobatics and stealth.

Essentially he wanted to make an Apache styled knife fighter, quick and agile and deadly accurate with his smaller blade.

He sees his character as a former carnival Knife Show entertainer who has taken to adventuring to escape the life in the carnival. He said he is not above spell casting, but he would rather like to be able to use tricks.

I thought a Ranger with the Skirmisher archetype to trade in spells for tricks but not sure what combat style would work best with that? How to build a character focused on that style of play and he is not very good at character creation and I typically make his profile sheets (He works a lot and I have some downtime so I help out.)

Rogue Knifemaster

Unchained rogue knifemaster

If you want to throw them, Juggler Bard would be good.

Flying Blade swashbuckler

Far Strike Monk is helpful too, even just a level or two gets you a lot of stuff

Ranger, Slayer, Fighter, Barbarian and Swashbuckler all come to mind. It really isn't that hard to get a martial up and running and multiclassing isn't bad if you have a plan. There are lots of options that will work here.

If you want to throw them, Flying Blade Swashbuckler is an awesome option.

3rd level unchained knifemaster rogue, and rest Flying Blade Swashbuckler. Dex and Cha, some Con and Wis. Int/Str not needed.

Rogue is an option, but the problem with the rogue is its a Rogue it is almost always lacking in damage output and makes the class a hindrance in an open fight, sure it skill monkeys but its not much good outside that from my experience with rogues.

Flying Blade has promise I agree, Ranger of course, Slayer is still new to me so I don't know it very well.

Slayer is Ranger Combat feats/favored terrain, and rogue sneak attack/talents, all with full d10 and full bab.

Unchained rogue is much better in this regard.

So I hear, the dex to damage for any finesse weapon would be very nice for this. But its a new book and I am still going over it. Would it be hard to learn quickly?

Unchained rogue isn't really lacking in damage anymore.

I played a knife fighter. it was fun. As he went up in level the d4 damage became irrelevant. Straight class fighters really dish out the damage.

Dex to damage would be nice since the 2 weapon fighting feats are dex intensive.

Yeah he told me he was considering the Kasatha for this build, if he takes Multiweapon Fighting I can see him using four daggers in a turn as a Unchained Knife Master could be really damaging.

"Whenever she makes a successful melee attack with the selected weapon, she adds her Dexterity modifier instead of her Strength modifier to the damage roll."

Great bonus for the close-in knife fighting part, but ranged damage gets no bonus from this ability.

I noticed that, I was hoping for Focused shot to add some Int to damage so a moderate Str and moderate Int might make up for both being less then the Dex focus. That way he can do the ranged thing but be more focused on the up close fighting style.

Warpriest

Thrown or Melee the scaling damage is nice. But I like the Idea of stabbing someone to death with a dagger like Broc Samson. Up close and personal just how I like it.

Have him look at the War-priest. I have seen it done, and it was mean.
