Looking for Wizard Base classes

Advice

Looking for Wizard Base Classes for Charm / Enchanter similar to the 3.5 Beguiler but more mage focused (Beguilers were too "Bard-like").

Also need a strong one for a Transmuter / Shapechanger

The Mesmerist from the Occult Adventures playtest might work for the enchanter.

Classes that aren't just a wizard with the appropriate school focus? Sorcerers with the Fey bloodline can work well for charm/enchanter stuff. Arcanists with school or bloodline archetypes or exploits can also somewhat pull this off, and they're a bit more effective because they can increase DC on the fly.

Brown-fur arcanists can be interesting for a shapechanger, since they can give their polymorph abilities to other classes. I'm not totally sure about wizard archetypes or anything, outside of just the Transmutation (Polymorph) subschool.

Arcanist Brown Fur Transmuter will make the SHapechanger/Transmuter you want. It allows you to put Personal and self target spells on allies as well as increase the bonuses you get from transmutation spells. I recommend pairing it with the transmuter Trait.

For the Enchanter a few classes stick out.

Cross-blooded sorcerer can effect the most targets with enchantment style spells. This is considered a weakness of the Enchanting school having to be Language and Target dependant.

Straight Enchantment wizard has some really nice Utility and Power.

The witch has a lot of enchantment based spells. Plus the slumber hex is just OP.

The Evangelist Cleric can make a good Enchanter who buffs the team and controls enemies with COmmands and suggestions.

Again an arcanist is a class that has some nice tricks. Potent magic is a strong ability that can help those enchantments stick.

Regardless most Builds for Enchanter Rely on: Spell focus and Greater spell focus enchantment. Also later levels (7+) you will most certainly want Persistent Meta magic. Spell penetration helps them actually land as well.

Thanks guys. I'm looking pretty closely now at the Arcanist and the Witch to see if they will be good fits for my campaign concepts. As for overcoming save DC, I'm less worried about that that as I'm working with a variant spell system which determines DC more as a caster check vs a static defense (similar to hitting AC only for saves).

For charm (assuming you do not want the enchanter wizard) you can go with kitsune sorcerer of the fey or maybe undead (so you can charm those charming undead)

For transmuter, the brown fur transmuter suggestion above is likely the best bet.

sounds like a interesting system.

It is pretty cool actually. Take their full bonus and add +10. This is now their static value (this is similar to how they did it in 4th ed), and you roll a caster check based on the following formula: D20 + ½ caster Level + Relevant Stat Bonus (Int for Wizard) + Feats / Bonuses (spec / domain add the normal + 2 bonus

Area effect spells use a ranged touch attack. Success = no save because you have HIT them. Roll damage normally. Crit success = Max damage

Massive Damage Threshold:Con Score + (LvL x 2) == IE: level 5 with a 15 Con would be 25 MDT, Level 10 with a 20 con would be 40 MDT.

MDT Fort Save: succeed on Fort Save with a DC 15 +1 / 5pts dam over threshold or suffer the effects of massive damage
Fort Failure = unconscious and Bleeding Out at -1 HP

NOTE: this is actually only a very small snip of a much larger work I hope to publish later this year
