You could share it in a spoiler, so those of us who've played through or run Kingmaker could know what you're talking about.

Kingmaker:
Irovetti.

Daggum, does he suck.

He:

1) hired the infamous murderer to handle people

2) charmed a female into thinking she loved him to force sex

3) kidnapped another woman and when she didn't blow her will save, gave her to the torturer to intimidate and maybe torture (we got there before hand)

4) Littleton: after removing all of his loyal would-be soldiers from his loyal town he then sold his own town to a bunch of wyverns to attack us along side of those same soldiers who had no idea their home town had been sacked by some of the wyverns they were fighting along side

... and that's in addition to all of the stupid "to be expected" stuff, like the whole assassination plot, attempted (and failed) invasion of our country, and similar.

Oh yeah, he's a dick. Ha!

Spoiler!:
I mean, if there was one shred of anything worth respecting about the guy, at the end, when he actually tried to negotiate, I would have found that worthy.

Instead, I found it pathetic.

Idiot.

Burn every single bridge you have; ensure that everyone hates you as thoroughly as possible; wait until you're so beaten that you have literally nothing with which to negotiate and no allies to rely upon; and then attempt to negotiate?

Daggum moron.

Hard to disgust me more when someone is both evil and stupid, and successful at the same time*.

And, like, his reasons for his evil were so daggum banal. There was absolutely no greater or higher purpose at work; nothing bigger than, "I really wanted it."

Yeah, he kind of had the hots for this ever-mysterious, ever-irritating Nyrissa character, but, you know, who in the daggum stolen lands doesn't?

* NO REAL-WORLD POLITICS ARE TO BE BROUGHT UP AT THIS TIME, BECAUSE I WILL BE UPSET. (I already am, just typing this daggum note and thinking about it.) THANK YOU. >:I

I posted another deity over in the Random Pantheon Generator thread. Check it out, Tac!

Link me! (If you please, Syrus!) :D

Also, as to how we're doing after the storm...

Okay!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Yeah. I didn't even know that was a thread.

It's been a long time since I checked my un-focused threads.

I know it is, and it's pretty awesome, I'm just working on a few things right now, and am a tad busy and have forgotten where, exactly, to look...

Sorry for the delay!!

This Is Bad Stuff

Why is it that I'm better at making bad-guy deities than good ones??

I can see someone has been reading SCP and/or Lovecraft!

Neat stuff!

One possibility, Syrus, is that the name has ceased to exist - that it was excised by either an epic spell (that destroyed the faster as a sacrifice to make it able to be cast fast enough), or that it was the use of that true name spell ("ritual of unnaming" I think it was called?) that erased it's true name. Preventing the reverse of that - the "ritual of renaming" or whatever - could be the whole point of the adventure?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

. . . I feel stupid -- I am missing the SCP callout . . . . facepalm (there'll probably be another one or twenty after you remind me who that is . . . .)

Oh, and, for the record, I haven't read any Lovecraft since mid-July, and this deity is the direct result of the following progression:

place name: Shroudfire Temple --> encounter inspiration: Crota's End (Destiny) --> fill in blanks from place name to encounter --> what does this outfit believe?? --> more twisted stuff from yours truly

I like that angle, Tac -- unnamed/rename. Cool stuff. Consider it hijacked. :D

It's still a bit early for that plotline to be as meaningful as I would want it to be, though, so I think it's going to go like this:

1) Find the temple, become more aware of what this being is about; maybe even find some things they can't deal with at present
2) Return "home" to find dark side propaganda has been disseminated (so, yeah, we're probably looking at a slight resurgence for this cult, but not to the point that ________ can "manifest")
3) Return to the temple to stop the ritual, tie up loose ends, etc., after a lot of other in-game events

Because when you're always trying to be good, there's another side of you constantly repressed, waiting to get out. I think it's why I am better at and more often play antivillains.

Nothing specific, Syrus - the general feel just feels like something from one of those works (especially SCP, what with all the redacted name everywhere). No stupid!

It could alps have been a shout out to beetle juice... or Pazuzu!

But it's a neat concept! And hijack away! :D

greentea --

Are the two directly proportional? Heh. I'm reminded of some exposition from the film Stigmata to the effect of: "The more devout you are, the more easily tempted." But that may just be wishful thinking on my part.

Tac --

I'm still missing what SCP is, chief . . . .

We haven't done anything with that gestalt game in at least 8 months. We were just getting to the point where a "bigger" plot hook was brought in (Look! A clue!!), and then everyone's schedules got fecally oscillated. All I had back then was a name, and, thereby, certain thematic concepts easily derived. I saw that Crota's End bit from my coworker last week, and over about two days, most everything fell into place. Still trying to finalize the map, though . . . . And loot, too.

On the subject of creepy fiction, specifically web-published, my brother sent me The Phenomenon while I was at Disney. The bastard.

Oh! Sorry...

Google!
Wikipedia
In it's own words! (It's written "in-character")
Main page of the website!

A recent thread about it with some neat examples!

Some of the SCPs are awesome, some are terrifying, some are great, some are unpleasant, some are funny, and some are weird - most are some combination of various of those.

Hope that helps!

Might as well be reading Game of Thrones: the Invasion...

Dang it, TOZ. Anyway, I'm about a third of the way through, and I'm half convinced it's an exercise in the Program I've heard so much about.

Dang it, dude, I had stuff t'do...

About halfway through and I stand by this assessment.

Only half the people left from the beginning of the story.

I'll remind you that I got it and finished it while I was at Disney.

Aaaaaaaaaaand it just ends at page 193?
Dang it.

You could have at least warned me that the ending was kind of (sort of) a cliffhanger (in that several stories are just... left).

Is there any update schedule you know of, or is that as complete as it gets?

EDIT: To be clear, it was really compelling and well-written. But wow. Leaves me wanting more, for sure, and definitively hanging in several cases.

It's posted on Reddit as the authors write it. That's just the compiled pages of what has been posted. 194-197 are supposedly posted, just not compiled in nice neat blog posts like that.

Ah. Cool. Thanks!

It's a very good story. It could have ended there, it just left me hanging.

Cruel of your brother to link it. Like you said. When you linked it. >:|

I figured I'd share this post from here (part of the original post here), because of how happy it makes me.

It's just such a cool idea (to me) that I love it.

Go figure!

1) "science fiction" - matrioshka brain, or similar megastructures, and perhaps hypothetically something along the lines of a black hole; these sorts of things would actually be able to function (hypothetically) as creatures (of a sort) and would possibly need the sort of weird handling (at least in very broad strokes, as interpreted by Lovecraft) seen in the Cthulu mythos, in terms of having other creatures more or less placating the super-thing to prevent it from going nuts all over everything with it's super-power (especially if it had lots of potential other stuff going on). One of the really cool things is that you've got lots of weird possibilities that this kind of creature could start doing that no one wants it to do, including creating Kugelblitzes or other weirdness that could cause lots and lots of very bad things. Heck, if the surrounding creatures were (effectively) Jupiter brains who were forced to attend their own hyper-sentient-yet-idiot-Matrioshka-brain star, you have pretty much the exact scenario Lovecraft described with only a visual difference to describe it... the weirdness factor would still solidly be there, and very, very bad things could and would happen to the universe if the court didn't keep up their "dancing" and "piping" or whatever. And of course Jupiter brains sending out endless probes to and from each other and beaming signals and whatnot would be weird and having their own near Dyson-swarm-like satellite clusters would look formless and amorphous. And that low, steady beep of a satellite could sound like monotonous piping. But, frankly, this kind of thing would likely never be accepted. Even if I do think science is the perfect tool for explaining the inexplicable... ;D

You know, I wrote this, but I really like this as an alternate take on Lovecraft.

Eerie monotonous piping.

... So. Awesome.

XD

(I love it when seemingly unrelated things just kind of "synch up" when just examining things in an unrelated way. So cool.)

One of the cool things is the sci-fi can be blended with the magic. Cool stuff!

(No one else may agree - that makes sense. But it's my favorite format thereof!)

Greeting Oh Great Lion of Ingenious Stratagem anD Tactics...

It has been awhile since I last visited here.

Just want to see how are you doing?

How are the wife and kids?

GOGLIS(D)T? Flow trippingly off the tongue. :D

Nice to see you here, again!

Been doing well. Taking Taekwondo with my Eldest - it's tough getting any other parents to sign up, but it'd be cool if I can! I can tell I'm getting healthier, actually - my stamina has improved remarkably, though I'm still a wussy McGee who can't complete the class exercises in time. Unfortunately it seems that, no matter what I do, one of my shoulders is slightly off - either my right or my left, depending on the week. Go figure. Also, as a family we're fighting off "the sick" as it were - but other than that (and failing to keep a clean house, no matter how much I try) I'm doing quite well!

The wife and kids, as mentioned, are fighting off "the sick" with me. The Eldest is doing quite well in school - the occasional discipline problem that seems to stem from a lack of attention/focus/obedience (all of which are related), but that's rare enough. He pretty much aces every quiz and test (except for one that was an oral exam a few weeks back - I had to teach him to read the words instead of guess them). The youngest is already two! As of Sunday (that's tomorrow when I'm typing this - likely today, yesterday, or a couple of days ago when you're reading)! So fast! The wife is being overwhelmed with work, as usual. Kind of wish I could help more, or, rather, I wish that there was a straight-forward and simple method that wouldn't harm her productivity and would allow her to help each of her kids that would lessen her work load. I wish even more that the school went with the sensible/awesome schedule they used to have - they kept the schedule for a whole year, until someone made them change it for reasons unknown - alas.

How are you? What's going on in your life? How's your cat? How's your thread? Should I copy/paste these questions to your thread? I should... I need to find the time to dig and find it...

EDIT: Basically, if anything around our house, we're always lacking time. We always need more of it. Always! Go figure. :D

I always feel amazed when people use me as a standard or exception to anything. Makes me smile, though*.

(I'm just an overweight stay-at-home dad who likes nerdy stuff and Christian stuff.)

* I think it means that someone's been positively affected by something I've done, so that's cool.

^ (I figured I should put that here, considering, you know, it's about me favorite'ing stuff. Cross posted from here.)

You and the family feel better.

Huh.

Gravity Falls. Anime. RotRL. Psionics.

Slow going, really.

I've got three games ready to prep for this one. Huh.

EDIT: For clarity.

Just upgraded my iPhone 5S to a 6S (cheap with my carrier plan.) More storage and a screen big enough to fit slightly more content....Good? Eh, maybe, it still has the limited functionality of iOS. I'll be impressed when Apple brings XCode and BASH to the iPhone.

I enjoy my iPhone! If I was at all skilled in anything computer-related, I may agree with you!
