Fair enough. It's still, technically, the new version/reboot of that game, though... at least sort of. I think? But good to know, nonetheless!

Heh, I've also watched multiple LPs of it without actually playing it (my only computer is a Chromebook, so no Steam for me). Also, the soundtrack is amazing!

A shame. I was fortunate enough to be able to play the game blind.
It relies a lot on that first run to give a memorable impact.
I knew I was hooked when..

Seriously a spoiler.:

I killed Toriel on accident and restarted. Then got called on it in dialogue cues by that character and then Flowey when he showed up next.
That little flowers dialogue was dead on.

I've also been finding the fan remixes of the soundtrack to be on average of high quality.
This guy has done metal covers of the boss songs.

That's good! I really don't mind for myself, however - it doesn't bother me in the slightest, one way or the other.

I'm more interested in the experience itself, and I don't have the time to pursue all of my interests, so allowing others to do it for me, while enjoying things along side them (well, sort of along-side, anway >.>) works for me!

It's true, that there are some great reviews. Some overlap between Steven Universe and Undertale fandoms, too, it seems, given the Stronger than You remixes and animations!

Speaking of rock remixes, I really enjoy both this guy and this guy - both very awesome in different ways (though the first, 311ERock, is more like RichaadEB than the second guy, Johnathan Young).

All come recommended over-all, though! :D

I need to take the time to properly play it someday. Maybe during the summer when I don't have classes.

(Provided I can find time between Rabb.it'ing Assassination Classroom with my brother and PaizoCon/GenCon/Phoenix Comicon.)

Yeah one of the best parts about the game is the multi-faceted layers in the choices you can make.
Short of hacking the game to see all the dialogue trees actually finding all the secrets and seeing all the hidden bits requires dozens of game runs.
Even then there is likely something you will have missed.

Though I will fully admit to being too much of a weenie to do the genocide run myself. I'm not the best at 'bullet hell' type games and after watching a lets play of that side of the game I can fully say I'm glad I didn't.

I hadn't seen 311 before. Johnathan Young I've heard before but its always nice to see again.

With your mention of steven universe I wonder if you've heard Caleb Hyles version of Stronger than you? Its fairly fun.
He's also got a version of the undertale song 'His theme' which is a gut punch of feels. Also massive spoilers on that one.

So... hey, I'm going to post this in both the FaWtL thread and this one in the hopes of getting some ideas (minor copy/paste to switch between "my" and "FaWtL" likely, but not guaranteed).

So... we have mythic in our game! It does stuff! You... don't really need to know about it, unless you care to.

HOWEVER!

There are two parts to a mythic path: the essence, and the path itself.

The essence is the gist or power source or broader theme of the powers.

A list of essences we've come up with are:

- chronal: of or relating to time
- eldritch: weird, creepy, unknown, occult
- holy: revered, honored, sacred, worship
- invincible: impervious, hard, tough, unbreaking
- savage: brutal, destructive, fierce thinking of changing the name, due to the Rage bonus asset, see below
- suzerain: rule, mastery, sovereignity, authority
- transcendent: unrestrained or above, having lost limits or failures

We also want something nature-focused, but other than "nature" we're uncertain what to do with it. We're also thinking "primal" but... we don't know if we want to blend those two or not.

On the other hand, the path is (generally speaking) the method by which the character achieves their essence.

A list of paths we've come up with (taken pretty directly from the mythic paths):

- archmage
- champion
- guardian
- hierophant
- marshal
- trickster

We're also looking for things to replicate the concept of a grand psion (other than "arch psion" which just sounds... I dunno... copy-ish), and empath.

Unfortunately, we've already got a number of terms in use, at present, that can't be borrowed for either essence or path.

These are used as the "kind" and "class" elements to create a class in this system.

Kind includes:

- Contemplative/Enlightened (chakra/focused ki, inner peace, perfect self)
- Empath/Performance (emote (mind-killer, nightmare), knife the soul, mantle (enrapture, inspiration))
- Natural (animal companion, nature magic, wild shape)
- Rage (rage, rapid reaction, savage)
- Sacred (lay on hands, smite)
- Skilled (favored <foe or terrain>, five additional skill specialties)

Class includes:
- Arcanist (arcane magic, bonded item/familiar/tattoo, school specialization)
- Erudite (discipline, domain, lore, magic, psionics, school)
- Priest (channel divinity, domains, religious magic)
- Psychic (discipline, imprint, psionics, psychic strike)
- Trickster (cunning, sneak attack)
- Warrior (armor training, bravery, mount, weapon training, weapon training (martial arts))
- Wild Talent (euphoria, surge*->enervation*)

The things in ooc-text in (parenthesis) above are possible bonus-assets for choosing that Kind and Class, though you only get a combination of three, total, from the selection process. You also gain a selection of skills, but those aren't listed, as it's a bit too much info. This may be, but... eh, it's to help get the point across.

We're thinking of changing the Trickster class to the good ol' standby of "rogue" or something else, to permit the Trickster mythic path to continue. (Things like "thief" or "ninja" seem a little too specific... but "rogue" also seems a little specific; so, we're a little torn.) We're also thinking of changing the Skilled kind to Expert, as that seems to line up a bit more with what you get out of the class itself. "Rage" might become "Frenzied" but... I'm not sure; that could end up a bonus asset. That said, "Rage" may well end up folded into "Wild Talent" class, so... who knows?

Anyway, the point is, we're trying to avoid those as words to use for our mythic stuff.

Any thoughts?

Oh, and "godhunter" - while an interesting mythic path - doesn't fit in to our world.

EDIT: fixing tags, noting editing, you know.

My first thought is, you know, "utility belt" or "anti-shark spray" or maybe "claws" but I don't know... lousy writing myself into a corner! Poor Alfred! He might have to wait forever for his precious Selina to return...

Although - granted I'm uncertain - I may have just spawned a thousand image boards devoted to plugging a hole in the general internet culture... filling a void that was missing. I strongly suspect that, even now, the Catwoman/Alfred stuff is flowing like an unstoppable tide of internet creation. What have I done...

Mythic wrote:

Mythic Path

When you gain your first mythic tier, you must choose a mythic essence and a mythic path. Your mythic essence and path may each be used as a dice whose value is based on your tier. Your mythic essence may be used as a resource, while your mythic path may act as a bonus asset.

Mythic Tier
For each tier you gain, you gain a single Mythic Point and your tier determines the potency of your essence and path. You may not spend more points than twice your tier. You may not have more than five mythic tiers.

At 1st tier, the value of your essence and path are each d4; this is stepped up at each tier thereafter, to a maximum of d12 at 5th tier. Natural 1s rolled on mythic dice (either those created by mythic points, or your path or essence) do not cause complications.

Mythic Point
You gain a single mythic point for each tier you attain. A Mythic Point allows you to do one of three different effects:

  • Step up a Dice: You may step up or multiply any dice roll by a number of steps or dice equal to the number of Mythic Points you expend. So, by expending one point, you may either step up your die by one step; or you may add a second die ("double" your dice). You may not step up the dice beyond a d12.
  • Add a +: You may increase any dice roll by expending mythic points to add one or more '+' to it. You may not add a '+' that ignores a dice roll higher than your lowest dice value.
  • Act as a Plot Point: The Mythic Point functions like a plot point.
You may only increase a roll that falls within the purview of your mythic essence and/or path. Your mythic points refresh for each scene.

The Language of '+' Dice
A '+' represents the limited ability to ignore dice. A single '+' ignores all dice of a d4 value or lower involved with the roll. A '++' ignores all dice of a d6 value or lower, a '+++' ignores all dice of d8 value or lower, and so on. When two dice rolls have opposing '+' values rolled against each other, they partially cancel out: to determine how they interact, reduce each of the '+' values for the opposed rolls until only one of the opposed roll has '+' values. This does not apply to other opposed dice rolls.

Mythic Complications
Normally, when a character suffers a d12+ complication, they are Taken Out of the action, able only to take limited actions while suffering under that complication. If, however, the d12+ complication is applied against an ability score that has a '+', the character is not automatically Taken Out. Instead, the complication must reach a '+' value of one greater than the '+' value of the ability score.

There you go! :D

Batman vs. Punisher vs. Iron Man vs. Hawkeye vs. Green Arrow, five man battle royale of Marvel and DC's most well known non-powered characters.

They have one hour to prepare and do not know who they will battle exactly. The field is, let's say Death Valley at midnight on a cloudless night with a full moon, all approaching from opposite ends of the desert.

They are allowed only as much equipment as they can carry or wear, so Iron Man does not have access to like 372 suits when he needs to change styles.

What is the order of elimination? Who survives to the end? Why?

Green Arrow is the first to go because he's stupid and I hate him.

Also because he kind of sucks, even (and often especially) in comparison to the others, but mostly the first thing.

Thereafter Punisher and Hawkeye are going to be hard to decide between - my dislike of Frank is only matched by the fact that Hawkeye is, ultimately, not as amazing as most others. Still, I suspect that Frank actually (legitimately) would be taken out early on - likely killing anyone who was nearby with his crazy-pants deadman switch that he almost certainly shoved into himself at some point or another to loose all of his grenades at the same time upon death... but, you know, ultimately his lack of nightvision, being stuck in death valley, and so on, would work against him.

Hawkeye would be killed quickly if he's stuck in Death Valley for some reason. Otherwise, he'd just kind of slink away.

From then on, it varies. Batman's covered "every" contingency... in a general sort of way. The main problem is that, after the (relatively fast*) elimination of the Green Arrow, Batman wouldn't really have much prepared for anyone other than Punisher, because Punisher is ultimately just a really tough guy with Lethal Weapon(s) a fine set of films, witch the Bat' deals with all the daggum time.

* If I'm being more fair, and granting 'Arrow a sliver of his normal Editorial Grace, he'd likely last a bit longer. But he's neither popular enough nor gifted enough to last all that long, one way or the other.

Hawkeye is hypothetically similar to Green Arrow, but not as dumb, in general, which makes his whole sniper thing a bit more dangerous. That said, not too many places to hide from nightvision Batman (which he obviously has), or Tony's wide array of sensory stuff.

Speaking of, Iron Man in his "standard" suit is really hard for most people to deal with - Frank couldn't really kill him; Green Arrow'd only leave him laughing, and Hawkeye and Batman would both tend to wait until the others were "done" in hopes of wearing him down somewhat (which is exactly what Frank would accomplish, if he and Tony ran into each other). I mean, in theory Green Arrow's trick arrows would help against Tony's suit, but... I don't place Wally that high in the world's brightest lineup (as is probably obvious), and unless he has specific Editor Power behind him, he's just not likely to do that in time or effectively.

Really, though, it'd come down to a battle between the Billionaires. Hawkeye - either through sheer mortality, or his own realization of that and voluntary departure, would be removed from the battlefield.

(If there was no escaping the "one of them dies" scenario, after he'd said his goodbyes to his family, he'd likely die later, though it'd be a heck'va thing. If he couldn't leave the 'Valley, it'd be over a lot sooner, though still his stealth and sniping abilities would be considerable.)

Batman is the "crowd favorite" as it were, and I'm inclined to give it to him, but Bruce isn't the only one with a crazy-large amount of gizmos and tricks. He's certainly wiser than Tony over-all, but it really depends on which of Mr. Wayne's various other-identities we're dealing with; and on which Mr. Stark.

In the end, I'd probably give it to Bruce. Tony's just too arrogant - he'd probably more-or-less easily clean up the first three (presuming they were all present), but arrogantly announce his presence by default, which just makes him the biggest target, and probably gets damaged by Frank's deadman's switch and/or one or two of Wally's dumber and more improbable arrows.

The good news is that Wally's dead, Frank's dead, Clint is alive (just downed by Tony), and Tony's alive (just downed by Batman). Frankly, the only reason Wally and Frank died is due to their own stupidity (though, sadly, Wally may well survive), while Batman just takes the final two alive (Clint would be downed by Iron Man, first, then Tony by the Bat), and calls for backup from Alfred, wandering how the heck he ended up in the middle of Death Valley and who these two new super-villains (heroes?) are.

Unless this is the nineties, in which case they all kill each other in testosterone-and-pockets-fueled rage.

The secret ending, of course, is when Nate Gray comes back and gains the full power of all the 'Lanterns and an uber-hybrid Thor/Superman body, after claiming all of the power of the Beyonder for himself for the sake of all. 'Cause Nate is basically the best and I don't care who knows it.

Hah! Actually, to be brutally honest, "least returns" was an exaggeration - I've had a few things favorited fairly well that I put effort into. But it was a funny realization - a quip and a question were the things I did that people like the most.

Also, it now looks like my question - which was a genuine inquiry - was a witty snap at another poster instead of a genuine inquiry. But that's just how those things go.
