Reign of Winter (Hardmode): Maptools and Mic (Looking at either Wed. 8:30p Est to 11p or Thur 9p to 2a Est)

Recruitment

So I've been wanting to run a home(ish) game for a while and had in mind to do a Kaiju focused one. But that task is daunting and requires quite a bit of time to get right.

So I'm scratching the itch in the meantime with an adventure path that's about as wild as running like hell from the cloverfield monster in the first few hours of the homebrew I had in mind.

So here we go.

The Basics.

1. If you are interested simply let me know in this thread. Give me a quick run down about yourself and your experience and I'll let you know via PM.

2. A microphone is mandatory. Maptools is java based and I'll be getting the latest version to ensure everyone is on the same page. I have no interest in other things atm as maptools is nice, quick, and I'm comfortable with it given my many many folders of things for it. Plus, people skilled in java can make some very good macros. It's also free. So yeah.

3. I don't want your character sheet. I don't want your backstory. Seriously if you give it to me here I won't even consider it. Sure, you can work on one but don't expect it to be final. Reason being as I plan on the first session being purely about the players getting together to make characters, hashing out their backstories, and building an actual team rather than a bunch of poor sobs thrown together as this AP seems to implicate. You'll be better for it trust me.

4. First session will be on the 14th with Recruitment closing on the 8th. 4 people with a 5th if I feel it works out.

Things you should know.
1. All Paizo, Machinesmith, and Path of War Material will be allowed. Unchained classes allowed but not required (you can still be an APG summoner if you choose) Stamina system in place but only for Fighters who gain the Combat Stamina feat for free at 1st level.

2. 20pt. buy starting at level 1. Two traits one must be a campaign trait. I highly suggest getting the players guide.

3. Encounters are being altered for difficulty. Not CR. Which is to say certain things are changed to make fights harder without necessarily making the numbers bigger. Their tactics and equipment might change, I may switch out NPC's of one class for another, I might do something extremely subtle like simply move the furniture around the room. Whatever I can do to increase the difficulty and force the group to act as a group and not a pack of individuals I will do so.

Confirmed Houserules

Injury System: I'm currently working on an injury system I am looking to publish. The concept is that it is harder to actually lose a character to death but easier to see them injured. Details will come in when we start the game so I will just say that it's very easy for a character to lose a limb or break a leg and it takes time to properly heal. Magic can't really do the trick for a lot of injuries but some spells will be introduced around 3rd spell level that should function like remove disease/curse to give a good chance.

To Be Discussed houserules

I'm considering some other houserules to help combat be more dynamic/tactical. But, we'll talk about those with the group as a whole. Some thoughts.

No Attack of Opportunity for combat maneuvers if you do not posses the feat.

Attack of Opportunity against you if you miss an attack by 5+Wis mod.

And some others depending.

Let me know if you have any questions.

What do you mean by hardmode? Also, it would have to be Thursdays if I were to join you.

Dot. I've been dying to play RoW and my pbp game of it died before we even left town.

I will throw together a more in-depth reply after work.

Sounds interesting. The inclusion of Path of War is particularly nice. I'm glad to see games warming up to it; it seems to be becoming a more common inclusion around these parts.

One note about the Kaiju, if you don't like the Spawn of Rovagug, there's the Valashmai Jungle in Tian Xia which is like Jurassic Wolrd: Kaiju Edition.

About me:
I'm currently finishing up my junior year as a chemical engineering undergraduate student. I've been playing D&D since I was 13 or 14 when a friend pulled out his dad's 2e stuff one day. In high school I played a fair amount over Maptools, way back before Roll20 came along. I've been with Pathfinder since 4e came out and haven't looked back. Golarion is my favorite campaign setting, but I haven't been in a stable game since high school, so I've never gotten very far in any AP and I've never played RoW. I'm very familiar with the lore of the setting. I'm comfortable with the rules, but I've always preferred theater-of-the-mind play over strict grid-based tactical combat. I'm particularly interested in the chance to play in a game where the characters are designed from the get-go to operate as a team; I imagine it would be a very different combat experience from the typical dungeon crawl.

I'm interested.

I came to this message board after a long time game fell apart (~10 years)

We used Skype and Fantasy Grounds 2.

I could play either Wed or Thu.

I most often prefer to play some sort of caster or hybrid.

I prefer balance between tactical combat, roleplay, and puzzles

If you need to know anything more personal, please feel free to IM me with questions

Thanks

I have never played online in the way that this would.

I enjoy playing support characters.

I am not very tactically minded, but I am open to suggestions.

I am still somewhat new to Pathfinder, but a veteran of roleplaying games.

I am only available on Thursday night.

Let me know if you want more.

Very interested, not positive what I'd like to play quite yet but I can make both of those times.

About Me:
I've played quite a few times in Maptools with a DM I found online. It's been quite awhile since I have used it though, so I might be a little rusty. I do currently play through Roll20+Skype with some of my friends, so that part should be pretty similar.

I generally play frontlines bruiser-type characters or divine spellcasters, though I dabble in support and/or healing classes (Vitalist!). I once tried to play a Sorcerer and it was kind of boring to just spam Acid Splash all day, so I probably am not interested in the arcane spellcaster role.

I'm able to play either Wednesday or Thursday, but I prefer the hours for the Wednesday option. I can absolutely stay until 2am on Thursdays, but I'd need to make a few changes so I can dedicate all that time.

I'm a big fan of combat-heavy games, but I do enjoy roleplaying as well.

If you have any other questions, I'd be glad to answer.

Also, a quick question for you: Is the RP going to be spoken, and in first person? Because I'm really, really bad at that kind and it pretty much prevents me from playing those games.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by your question if you mean that I expect dialogue at least to be spoken as if in first person then yes if she mean I expect you to be in character at all times not so muchno I mean if you think you're bad at that kind of thing I wouldn't worry too much about it I mean I've dealt with bad role players and people just straight up refuse the role play at all so mean it's not exactly going to be a huge deal breaker if your selected by to answer your question yes this is a talking game also forgive my bad grammar and punctuation posting text to speech for mobile

No, I mean I just can't get into roleplaying in the first person. It's just something I'm not comfortable with. I don't think this will be a good fit for me, so I'm going to bow out.

Good luck, and I hope you get a great group going. :)

So far I'm looking at Alistus, Nohwear, LitanyOfCurses, and DreadPirateHurley correct?

I'm assuming all of you gentlemen have a mic?

And assuming that do you gentlemen have a preffered voice chat program you like to use?

I have skype but I far prefer mumble and would love it if one of the players had access to a server. Google hangouts is also an option.

I can get any voice chat that is preferred, but I may or may not be able to get us into a Teamspeak server if no one is against that.

I have no strong preferences.

I have a mike, and prefer skype, but it looks like mumble is free so i don't care

So then, I presume that with the group as is that I will be the healer?

Well there's 4 more days until I close this and I have to shake up a few trees to see if anyone falls out still.

I... don't have a mic. Failed my perception check on that one. Sorry about that.

Liberty's Edge

Interested... but:
- I normally speak Spanish. I have been told I talk "good" English, but is not my normal language.
- Never even heard of Machinesmith and Path of War

Path of War is made by the same people that created Psionics.

You can find both the machinesmith and path of war on www.d20pfsrd.com

Do you know yet if there will be time for crafting, or is that something to be discussed?

Liberty's Edge

Ohhh... Path of War is to add "abilities" to fighters (I recall the "Book of Iron Might") and Machine Smith is a "cyberpunk" class (ewww!).
Good thing they are on D20PFSRD.

Small bump to let people know this closes tommorrow.

Liberty's Edge

Not sure if I did this, but I have experience. I even mastered RotR (well, Burn Offerings) with Maptools a couple years ago.
I love Maptools, even if I tend to "lose" myself in the technical details of it.
Got microphone, and I think I got passable spoken English. I can install whatever voice software we want to use.

Well sadly I was hoping more people would answer but let's see.

Corsario
Nohwear
Litany of Curses
Alistus

I'm going to try and get 1 or two more people in. In the meantime if you guys could PM me an email address I can contact you guys by we can agree on a voice chat program and go from there.

Hurley if you think you can get a functioning mic before thursday let me know.

I'm just missing Alistus's email. Are you still interested?

Between rent being due and this week being finals week, I won't be able to join you this Thursday. Have fun!

I was checking my spam, and I just want to make sure that you have not emailed me.

Liberty's Edge

I haven't got any TarkXT email yet

I'm emailing today. Was just tryign to get 4 people so it's actually worth it.
