Question about playtest class

Pathfinder Society

Would it be possible for someone like me to play a kineticist in PFS? Or is that no bueno?

Alas, they aren't available any more, until Occult Adventures comes out this summer.

There was a very short window of opportunity, but it's gone now. Now we need to wait till the book's out.

I feel your pain. I had a half-elven Harry Dresdenesque occultist prepped and ready, but no games to play in.

Thanks for reply. I was hoping to play female dwarf Kinetiscist/Oracle of earth named Toph. Can't wait to do so when book is released.

I have the opposite problem, I will have a L10 kineticist by the time the book is available.

I dont think Ill hit 10 by then, but My Spiritualist is currently level 4, nearly 5. So far so good, but the Anger Phantom is really hurting for HP.

I have a level 4 Medium that's shelved until OA comes out, but one of our local VOs is looking to complete Eyes of the Ten with his Mesmerist before the book comes out.

Well let me guess what oracle curse you will take ^^ And the best thing is, just never have to learn names, just call them "moron" or "twinkletoes^^"

There's a half-elven me? Since when did a Doppleganger get DNA from me?

Lol. Toph was actually my favorite character from the Show. Hmm. I seriously doubt I will play anything in that direction, even if the Book comes out. There are still some ideas I have.

The "very short window" was about a month. Long enough for most. It may not have worked for your schedule, but that is by no means "very short".

Compared to the playtest for the ACG classes, the Occult playtest was very short. ACG playtest was months long - long enough that many people had characters retire before the book came out. As someone who plays PFS often, I found the window to be extremely short for the boons that were included in the playtest chronicle. 9 games with a minimum of two played at level 7. This meant that you had to have a level 5+ GM blob and play at least 9 games in a month to get the boon. I personally got the 6 line boon on my Harry Dresden Occultist, and love the roleplay I can do with him.

Sure, if we compare something longer to something shorter then it's easy to say that. If we compare a month to a day it's not as easy. I agree getting in enough plays to get the big boons on the sheet was too short, but getting enough plays to continue playing the character was very doable.

Shadow Lodge 4/5

Alright. It wasn't very short for you, but for our local scene it wasn't anywhere long enough.

All depends on where you are. Locally, we have a game every other week. A one month window was *very* short.

One month for playtesting does seem quiet short and for information gathering as well.

I raised that question immediately following the end of the playtest period as well. Locally, I did not see one playtest character in the 6 or so sessions I played that month (I personally had zero interest). However they said they were happy with the information they gathered, so I guess there must have been some places churning out Mediums with their 'tertiary spirits' or whatever. I'm really not sure how they got anything resembling a useful sample of information at any levels beyond 1, but hey, if they're happy that's all that matters.

To quote the great Amanda Waller... you left it all over town.

Shadow Lodge 4/5

Waller? Not Karrin Murphy?

And I wrote "esque"!

I'm waiting for someone to make a gunslinger/brawler named Karrin Murphy in our area so we can play those characters together. =D

I know this is a slight derail but I often point to Michael Carpenter as a great example of how to play a paladin.

Although Shiro and Sayna are great examples too. Especially Sayna, being dedicated to good without worshiping a god.

Dark Archive

Sanya is more of a Battle Oracle than Paladin, due to the not worshipping a god. Michael is a through and through Paladin for sure. Oh and I'm carrying a sword cane in reference to Shiro's sword.

A month may seem short when you're looking at the local level, but internationally that can add up to a lot of data. There are almost 200,000 registered PFS ID numbers. Even if 1% of that population made a single Occultist, that's 2,000 reports to filter through.

If you weren't active on the playtest forums at the time, I can tell you that each section was brimming with comments for the entire month.

Locally we had players get all the way to 7th or 8th level, IIRC. I played with a Telekineticist at the table that was 6th level. I made an Aerokineticist (this profile) that played every single session (no GM credit) and ended the playtest at 4th level.

Just in my local scene we had one of each elemental Kineticist, a Spiritualist, a Psychic, and a Medium.

Northern California sees a lot of play.

When there is a month-long playtest, and they release two scenarios a month, there isn't that much opportunity for an experienced player (one who has played most scenarios) to actually play a new character.
