I thought the Robocop remake was OK, but not great. It had villain problems.

Live Action GitS was just frustrating to watch. Its impossible to not compare it to the anime, because it lifts multiple scenes, shot for shot, from Oshii's film. As a result, I spent the whole film being reminded of the other, better version of what I was watching.

Excellent visuals in the film. I have to agree with many though the story was weaker. Seems like maybe they were afraid to put out a film that would challenge the viewer to follow along and think. Its like the writing holds your hand the whole time. Not disappointed because this is what I expected.

All I know is I have a strong tendency to compare previous films to the remakes. That's kind of how I do it with covers of songs I like.

For GitS, the fact was they had the right source material to make this a fine film, but flubbed it by a weak plot and lack of cohesiveness towards what GitS is.

The same is true for Robocop the Remake.

I got a rule where I don't knock it until I've rocked it. I may have preconceived notions and worrisome criticisms, but I cant say something is really bad until I know.

Yup. It was like they didn't think the audience could figure out that the title of the movie meant "human consciousness inside of a machine."

I liked it, but I don't want to see it again.

I feel that they didn't so much dumb down the concepts as skim them. If you're familiar with the setting (which two of my friends are who are totally in to Anime) then all that philosophical stuff is there in an homage sort of way.
