My focus right now is making a lab rat (ratfolk alchemist) for a Jade regent campaign due next month, and I'm super slow with backgrounds.
Also, I have a bad track record with RPG's on online forums, but it might be different with pathfinder and dedicated people...

Alright, I'm curious, so I might join. No promises :)

EDIT: Alright, I'll try to figure out a character, and if I do, I'm in.

Resisting the urge to to create a elderly human ranger or fighter or something focusing on 'thrown' weapons. I really don't have the time. Darn compulsions.

Pan - Well that makes a full group! Now we need to know what everyone will be playing.

Sencha - I threw out a handful of ideas for mechanical tea inspired characters. Background story, which it seems is what you're talking about, is a little different. I think part of that depends on what Beernorg wants to do for a campaign, whether AP, homebrew, or some variant in between.

...I suggest we're a merchant group of some sort. I can be the grower, with mad ranks in survival, knowledge (nature), and maybe profession (herbalist) if that has any uses that doesn't overlap with the other two...someone else can be the brewer, with alchemy and the like...another one the merchant, with appraise, maybe profession (merchant), diplomacy?

Captain - Dude, you're the spitting image of my friend Zach. You don't have a cousin, or half brother, or evil twin lurking in Ponte Vedra just outside Jacksonville, do you? ...In retrospect your personality seems similar, though that may just be projection on my behalf. But seriously, if his beard weren't so scraggly in comparison, I'd swear he were punking me this whole time and using this moment as a reveal! (That and he only has 1 kid.)

AP - Tossing boiling tea in an enemy's face does seem pretty funny...

Oh, and of course the accountant in wizard form!

Depending on the campaign ive been kicking around a monk/cleric of Irori. I'm thinking a fitness minded former monastery book worm. Ill flesh it out more once I hear what y'all got in mind.

But that's not tea related...I thought we were gonna...with the thing...and the...

Monks are always Tea related, name a Monk that doesn't drink Tea, go ahead I'll wait the little guy is test driving big wheels at toys r us, so I have all damn day:-p

Stay out of this, captain. Non participants don't get a vote. Also, any western monk that predates the last 500 years or so. So nyah :-P

I'll name two! (For a given value of monk.)

Brother Cadfael
Friar Tuck

Kajehase always comes through (see WotR:-D) shame on me for forgetting Friar Tuck, guess I've been making him a Cleric for too long:-)

Cadfael makes plenty of herbal teas in the TV show

Those are monks, not Monks.

How about Iroh from Avatar: The Last Airbender for a potential tea-focused monk? (I know there are probably other classes that describe him better, but...)

That would work. Would a kineticist function as well?

(I ask honestly, and hopefully helpfully, not suggesting anything specific.)

For Iroh? I haven't read the occult classes, but I believe Kineticist is the one that's generally accepted to best represent benders.

The problem is a Pyrokineticist sucks hardcore, which Iroh does not. And the whole class relies on you taking incurable nonlethal damage to do jack and all, so they don't represent Benders very well at all.

You people hear that? You have like 96 hours to convince me. I've moved a bit towards the idea thanks to outrageous boredom, so far.

NO. THEY ARE NOT. ESPECIALLY NOT MY CHAOTIC EVIL CANCER MAGES WHO START OrPhAnages and charity works and organize government councils to eliminate corruptions via proper channels...

Sh-SHUT UP. You don't know me, man! >:I

Look, all I'm saying is that slicing down two random dudes in the street with my lightsaber should totally have given me darkside points, regardless of the fact that I did it to save those two old people (who I healed, and gave money to in order to help get them off world) and that they attacked me first with blasters! I mean I just killed two dudes! Totally darkside! /KotOR

And really, why does my would-be Assassin shift away from evil every time I give that prostitute money! I mean, yes, I'm just giving coins to her for charity while rejecting any sort of gain or compensation in any manner because she's sick and has children, but come on: it's totally giving a prostitute money! /NWN OC

And look: yes, of course, not murdering little girls in cold blood is, you know, technically a "good" thing, I suppose, but, really, come on, now: I'm still getting my "Adam" substance, and I've brutally killed so many creatures in that game, that it really shouldn't matter that they're all deranged mutant psychotic... murderers who want... to kill... me when... I'm... unarmed... /Bioshock

Yeah, no, I'm bad at this. >.>

It's become obvious to me that I need to play my favorite alignment just to disturb Tacticslion. =)

This seems like common sense sort of stuff, really.

The sad part is him adding that is justified. There are f***ing idiots that will use "playing my character" as an excuse to be a dick. I always say if your character wouldn't be a team player, pick a new concept.

I'm really sick of the culture of entitlement that's grown around players these days. Like their concept is so precious, and the whole game world should bend around it, as if they couldn't possibly come up with more than one idea, let alone even try to bend it to fit within the world as envisioned by the GM. It's supposed to be fun, yes, but don't act like you can only have fun with your original concept.

Anyway, sorry...little grumpy. Woke up very early this morning to visit family for the long weekend.

I do enjoy neutral evil...A lot...but I have a hard time picturing a neutral evil druid. I know militant plant obsessed douchebags exist - I've met hardcore vegans - but I always picture druids as mellow hippies, at least half a sack baked and just at one with the universe, man. Those two ideas are a bit at odds with one another.

Two days with nothing? I feel so five minutes ago.

At least by now Beernorg should be back from his fishing trip and we can get this game arranged.

Getting Tacticslion's character in a party with two potential evils might be rough. I like the classic "we're related and/or someone we both trust/respect gave us a dying wish to get along" trope.

Or I could just, you know, not be evil. I suppose.

Seriously, two days? Don't make me advertise, people.

Oh, right, topic. Had lots of cheap sweet tea while visiting the family. =-/

I'm about to walk to the store, its about 2 miles, could drive but thats no fun, going for coffee filters, butter and bacon, also international delights creamer

Gotta love shopping lists like these :-)

I believe Evil can work in an otherwise non-evil party. At least our Legacy of Fire group made it through most of the first book being only slightly dysfunctional up until the point where the LN character finally turned evil when a devil(?) told her to kill her brother and she obeyed, except she failed and was soon overpowered. She then got the NE character to join her side by promising to do certain things to him, and... okay, so we ended last session being two characters short, but everyone had fun and our differences made for interesting party dynamics and good RP while it lasted.

As for tea... I'm not drinking any right now. Don't look at me like that, it's past midnight and I'm about to go to sleep soon.

I used to ride my bike anywhere within 5 miles. Lost about 20lbs in a year doing just that.

Then that woman hit me with her car, wrecked my bike, gave me a slide across the pavement where I chipped my tooth, and of course the cops ruled it my fault because I was riding my bike against the flow of traffic in a sidewalk (sidewalk biking is ok in Jax, because our roads are listed in the top 5 worst cities to bike in America, but you apparently need to go with traffic), even though she's the b**** who didn't look both ways, pulled through a stop sign without stopping, and sent me sprawling with her multi-ton vehicle. She then filed for me to pay the fifty dollars to fix her dent, while I still can't afford to fix my bike or tooth. (The combination of which is about 20x as much)

I have gained all the weight back since. :-/

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Ouch, that's rough. It sounds like you were both at fault, but her more so than you.
It doesn't help much against reckless a+#$~$!s like the one you encountered, but the need to allow bicycles on the sidewalk to keep them away from cars makes me appreciate how nice it is to live in a country where the cities come equipped with infrastructure to accommodate bicycles.

Raided Subway before I came on shift today so that I could have something that was a little more like food than the sandwiches I make for myself. I was in luck and they had some of their green tea with honey blend available. While I doubt it would win over the more serious tea snobs, I think it's pretty good. And better for me than the soda I would have had to get if they were out of tea.

I suppose if you need some quick cheap grub, a sub and some cheap bottled tea is a whole lot better than a burger, fries, and a coke.

Ugh, it's getting quiet here.

Anybody make any progress on the game idea, for characters or whatnot?

...or anyone want to try running it, since we haven't heard from Beernorg in a bit?

*shrug* Too bored for m'own good.

I do like GMing, but I don't think I'm mentally in a position to handle an online game as more than a player at the moment.

We actually have bike lanes in most of the south side of the city, where I live, but I refuse to use them, because drivers are idiots and not at all respectful of the other cars on the road, let alone bikes, and the seperation between bike lane and car lane is a thin line of paint, where the sidewalk gets a curb and three feet of grass between you and the drivers. I do NOT want to get clipped. My wife had a good friend go into a coma and eventually die from a hit and run when biking a few years ago.

I enjoy GMing too, but I'm already running 3 games, and I'm not the best homebrewer.

I don't like GMing, I only do it because I literally spent the entirety of the 3.5 era looking for a GM (my brother's games were already at capacity when we moved back from Seattle) so I sucked it up and press ganged my wife and then my kids, I'm not that good honestly:-)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I actually really like GMing, but using a smartphone rather than a computer would make it way more than a handful than I am prepared for. I would want to post updated maps for combat, and stuff like that, as well as use a homebrew world since I'm already running an AP in a couple weeks when my group finally finishes Skull and Shackles (which I have to reiterate takes a massive nosedive in quality after like book 2-3; I disdain the mechanics for ship to ship battles, and fleet battles are just awful).

If I had a good net connection at home and my computer were working, I'd whip something up, but again, as it is I'm just not in a position for that. Not to mention jumping back into PbP at all is a small stretch for me even as a player.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Argh Damn phone!!

I meant to say I used to hate GMing but it has since grown on me, I honestly can't say anything bad about Skull and Shackles, books 4 and 5 are two of my favorites, I don't mind the ship combat but I'm fairly loose with them, rule of cool reigns supreme in my Shackles campaigns :-)

I have returned from epic fly fishing...suppose I should answer the call of a possible tea game PbP, I would be happy to GM it, though haven't done a PbP ever, strangely. If 4-6 folks are interested, perhaps we can make this thing happen.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Well, we have three who said yes (myself, Rynjin and Tacticslion/SweetTeaGamer), and two maybe, so I so I guess it's time for Sencha and Pan to chime in with a definite answer?

I said I wasn't going to be a very good player right now.

Sheesh.

Uh... how do you feel about a... um... uh... crafting... thingy?

I dunno! Don't judge me!

... what other characters have been mentioned so far?

Let's organize and find out!

We've got:
- 0) GM_Beernorg: it's a gaaaaammmmmmeeeee world?
- 1) tgtg: tea-based druid (re-fluffing a treant?)
- 2) ryn: a lawful evil 11th level ranger? ranger's the important part
- 3) Pan: Irori-dude um, with tea, I guess?
- 4) tsg: ???
- 5) me: ???
- 6) ???: ???
- ?) cap: popeye tea pirate? Nevermind! Misunderstood!
- ?) tapg: throwing guy actually said he's out, buuuuu~uuut... listing nonetheless

So far:

Quote:

I figured since for a DM alcohol had no negative side effects, and you can find dirt cheap alcohol, using tea instead wouldn't be much of a stretch.

Other tea-flavored characters I can think of:

-Geisha, obviously, but it should be buffed because that archetype blows

-Treesinger druid, as mentioned before, with an ambulatory Camellia Sinensis plant (which I totally call dibs on) claimed by tgtg

-Alchemist, Mutation Warrior, Investigator, Mutagenic Mauler, etc, with his own "special brew"...not as thematic, honestly, but if they grab infusion and can share...

-Drunken brute/rager...this takes a little more creativity, but if you reflavor rage as intense focus, caffeine power works...Or he just chugs like a gallon of matcha green and tweaks like a meth head.

and

Quote:

I could put together a supercilious tea-drinking Flashman/Errol Flynn Victorian Imperialist type swashbuckler (or dextrous fighter. Or gunslinger), I should think; however, if anyone else wants to nip in ahead of me, that's fine, seeing as I've only just expressed an interest :)

Oh, something seems to be happening now. Shit, I better start looking into a character soon :D Maybe I should take a look at some herbalism in Heroes of the Wild...

That is a good point, I should probably actually stat out my druid already. I'm assuming we're going with the 5th level, 20-pt buy, two traits, build mentioned earlier, Beernorg?

Standard WBL? Any world or other information to work with to make this a little easier?

They kickstarter funded a sequel a little while ago. I can only assume they're filming it now.

With the mediocrity of Beerfest and the gawd-flipping-awfulness of Club Dred, I don't have high hopes. I truly believe Super Troopers' excellence was a fluke.

I think I am too - I don't think I've been explicitly inspired, due to lack of information. I mean, I could just make a character, but I'd hate to do that only to find he's illegal later.
