I mean it's Disney, so they're not going to kill everyone, but still.
I've never found the "but we know how it's going to end" complaint persuasive. Of course we know how it's going to end. In broad general terms, just like we know how every action movie is going to end. The hero beats the bad guy and gets the girl. Even in the cliffhanger action scenes, the question is how the hero escapes, not whether or not he escapes.
It's the journey and the details that can be surprising, not the final outcome.
I hear 'We already now how it ends' complaints and the only thing that flashes through my mind is "So you've never watched anything a second time?"

I mean there are some stories where there's the ending really is a big reveal and spoiling it would hurt the experience. A lot of twist ending stories and the like. Action-adventure space opera flicks aren't really that kind of movie.
Even those movies you can often enjoy a second time, because the second time through you can reassess all the clues and hints that are pointing at the twist you know know.
For some reason, I'm thinking Usual Suspects as my example here. It's a completely different movie once you know the ending.

Rogue One character Code names.
For a different set of reasons I am nearly as excited and hopeful for this movie as I was for The Force Awakens.
Same for me. I was super excited for Force Awakens, and Rogue One has me just as excited! After how much I enjoyed The Force Awakens I may even be a little more excited for Rogue One.

I'm contrary by nature, so I both want to see some Star Wars stuff that has nothing to do with the Force or the greater story arc of the Skywalker 'midichlorian force Jesus' clan, and yet also more to do with the Force and Force-users (that aren't necessarily Jedi, or at least, come from a generation in which there are more than two Force-Gandalfs in the universe).
Rogue One promises to be the former, a story in which troopers and smugglers and agents and bounty hunters can be relevant and important without being overshadowed by the story of the two to four people in the universe with super-powers this generation.
Rogue One also could be that rare thing, a Star Wars story that doesn't have lightsabers in it, since there's no real need for them. Time to let the 'clumsy and random' blaster have it's day!
Poor Alan Tudyk. After I, Robot, it seems he's been typecast (along with Andy Serkis and Ron Perlman) as the go-to actor for roles in which we don't get to see his face.

Regarding the trailer - just from this alone, I've got some raised hopes for this movie. It had the "feel" of the original trilogy to me (if that makes sense), with the seemingly all-powerful and pervasive Empire, and the desperate Rebel forces.
I loved seeing Forest Whitaker. He's always awesome. And I read that Mads Mikkelsen and Alan Tudyk will also be in it, which makes me happy. Not sure who the lead chick was. I checked her out on IMDB, but I don't think I've ever seen anything she's in. Still, there was a hint of the Princess Leia toughness about her, maybe with a dash of Han Solo "rogue".
All in all, I've got some positive vibes about this.

Looking forward to seeing more of the universe flushed out.
My first reaction was to mention Spaceballs: The Toilet Paper.
And writing this post made me wonder if it ever really happened, so I just did a Google search and found this.

Always good to see Forrest Whittaker.
he's one of the biggest blackest geeks on the face of the planet. I truly loved his twilight zone, and the wonderful, hard hitting update to the monsters are coming to maple street, one of my favorite episodes, if not my all time favorite.

Come on Ol buddy, don't let me down!
Well for starters...Did TFA have Forest Whitaker in it?
Second...well...do I even need to go on?
(as long as he's a main character, should rock all over TFA's main characters...apologies to Han Solo...err...Harrison Ford...but I think Forest's character might be cooler...)
and they have Mon Mothma?
And some other really awesome looking characters...it has coolness written all over it thus far...
and that doesn't even start on the Death Star and the Rebel Base (and running the AT-AT Gamut!!!!

Links to a page titled "Star Wars Fans Are Upset Over Rogue One's Female Lead"
In all seriousness, I say: who cares about gender? I want to see a Star Wars movie with a NON-HUMAN lead! Really, the Star Wars galaxy has all those wonderful aliens, but none of them can ever be a main character?! Why not?

The Jar Jar Binks movie.
Someone had to go there. ;)

I just wish they chosen an actress other than Felicity Jones who looks exactly like Daisy Ridley. An actress of color, or one with a different body shape (or both!) would have gone a long way for me. John Green did an interview about 2 years ago talking about the formula that the most-successful young adult novels follow and one of the big points was to have a skinny white girl with brown hair as the protagonist. It seems that isn't lost on blockbuster movies.
Aside from that, the trailer looks amazing. I think this is the Star Wars movie that I wanted TFA to be. I'm glad that franchise is going to dig into the existing story arcs as well as moving forward. I think I will wind up enjoying the "spin-off" movies more than VII-IX.

Or a Star Trek Captain either.

Oh come on who cares about stuff like that? As long as she does good acting, I couldn't care less about the way she looks, is built or the melanin content in her skin.

indeed, he has probably killed a non-human lead for star wars. Near-human is as close as we will get.

everyone wanted to be either Han Solo or Luke Skywalker when I grew up. Chewbacca and Yoda were roles assigned to less popular kids.

My favorite roll of his was probably in Species. Second was Bird.

He is human. Laser sword is a thing not a piece of him. As for psychic powers, that is something cool.
As it turns out, a lot of Americans care about it.
Or you want them to care? Unless you can provide me with a relevant statistic, I can't deem your statement as true.
