Stormtroopers are elite troops of the empire, of course they can aim properly. The fact is that all of those times they missed in the movies, they MISSED ON PURPOSE. First it was to get them to show where the rebel base was. Then to get them to get into an almost no-win situation in episode 6. Look at Empire and how they kicked their asses.

The other incredibly distressing thought for folks opposed to the Empire... ...that the Empire had *enough troops* that having them 'shoot to herd' and losing a few of them wasn't even an issue There is a definite psychological 'kick' when the faceless army just keeps coming, and coming...
ie, imagine zombies with guns instead of stormtroopers...

There is a great chilling scene in the Rogue One Catalyst novel.
After the Jedi were massacred with the implantation of Order 66 and the subsequent Jedi purge, the rare Kyber Crystals were suddenly available since dead Jedi don't need thier lightsabers.
In one of the book's memorable scenes, a bag of Kyber Crystals is unceremoniously dumped into Galen's hands akin to lose sets of gold teeth during the events of the Holocaust.

Very cool if true.
There is a big discussion about this in the Fantasy Flight boards.
The Rebels series fans there are ... rabid.
While it could be any VCX-100 light freighter, for the Rogue One film makers to go out of their way to add that particular ship type in the movie means they are indeed giving acknowledgement to the events of the Rebels series and giving something for die hard fans to squee about.
So I am very inclined to say this is indeed the Ghost, with maybe it's call sign being said in the background as part of the chatter as the ships come in.
Next to the VCX-100 image above is one of the Hammerhead Cruisers from the original Knights of the Old Republic video game that we also see in Rebels.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO REBELS!
There better be y wings in this film. That's all I ask, now that there has been a nod/easter egg.
"Y" yes there are some Y wings..
((The "Y" is a link, sometimes the non underlining of links on the boards is ugh))

For the longest time I tried to figure out why Gold Leader had to be told to "Stay on Target". As I got older I realized the older pilot was like a gunny, trying to keep his lieutenant from messing up.

Sorry, again slightly off topic, but talk of Gold Leader got me watching the Trench Run scenes again.
Just noticed a potential error in a new hope and wanted to run it by the experts here before I start screaming out on my facebook page..
As they approach the DS and do the roll call, Porkins clearly identifies himself as Red Six.
A short while later, Porkins has a system problem after helping Red 3 on strafing run, and promptly gets blown up..the first shown casualty.
Later, Luke is being chased by a Tie fighter, and gets hit in the engine. Red Leader asks, Red 6 can you see Red 5? And someone replies its a heavy fire zone.
So is that a FKup, as Porkins is dead, or should be generous and assume Red Leader didn't know Porkins was dead and then Biggs or someone else answered instead?

There was a Jek Porkins fansite out there years ago, that had the craziest of all conspiracy theories that he actually managed to survive because of that particular inconsistency...
I've seen those theories [chuckle].
Not as compelling as Major General (Chief) Bast, Chief of Operations, surviving because you actually SEE him in the Star Wars Holiday Special.
He was the staff officer who warned Grand Moff Tarkin there was a danger to him and that suggests they move the Grand Moff to safety, and was quickly rebuffed.
Maybe in the last moments he took his own advice and got the hell out of Dodge.

This Filipino Rogue One tie in commercial is easily the most heart warming one to use this movie.
#humbleBrag my talented niece/big Star Wars fan was part of the team that made this.

Your NIECE was involved??
Your family is strong in the ways of star wars?!?
I'm very proud of her, she told me some six+ months ago she had a surprise for me.
She sent me the link to the company site a few days ago which I neglected to look at until she called to ask if I didn't like the work, which of course made me rush to see what she was taking about.
With tear in my eye and jaw dropped I told her I loved her team's work and that I was so very proud of her and that I'm sure they are a shoe in for the advertsing awards in Asia next year.
Before she got off the phone she reminded me she still has all the Star Wars LEGO's I sent a decade and a half ago. (Yep, more tears for me.)
Then I promptly posted this version of the ad on everywhere I post.
I am also so very pleased that my niece knows which (Dark) Side are the real good guys.
(And I'm jealous because The Philippines gets to premiere Rogue One 12 hours ahead of New York.)

I wish my 4.5 year old were mature enough to handle Rogue One. She loves Star Wars pop culture, but we happened to catch the end of ANH a few weeks back, and dear lord, did she break down in tears at the people dying. Porkins' death just started the emotional chain reaction that ended up with her crying for all the imperials blown up on the Death Star.
So... maybe Epi 8 gets her a theater visit.
GM Niles |
Yeah, my daughter is pretty mature emotionally. She understands its just a movie, and she typically is ok with stuff like that. However, I did not take her to see TFA in the theatre, it was a long movie and at the time she was only 4. I honestly worry more about her bothering the other patrons of the theatre if she gets bored (she has a tendency to want to go run up and down the aisles)
We watched TFA at home on Bluray and she enjoyed all the action scenes. She started to lose interest during the less active scenes.
She is a huge Rey fan and she LOVES Sabine (from SW:Rebels). I'm hoping she becomes a Jyn Erso fan as well.

I STILL have nightmares to this day. It's very hard to picture such a loss, primarily that of Grand Moff Tarkin, but of course the Death Star as well.
Archmagi this is how I envision your sweet and Loyal Imperial citizen little girl. Tell her there is Hope, and with her help, we will still yet crush this thrice cursed Rebellion.

Rogue One is The Empire Strikes Back great!
I kind of figured that out already, and both films are true to the events in The Saga unlike the other Rebel propaganda films.
Charles Scholz |
We already know the plot.
Some rebel spies infiltrate the base where the Death Star is being built while the Rebel fleet is battling the Imperials. The Rebels win the battle and the spies steal the plans. The plans are passed onto Princess Leia who escapes to the space above Tatooine.
Everything else is minor details.
