Toys as Miniatures

Miniatures

I have come across a few "toys" that worked well as miniatures. I was curious what kinds of toys have you added to your miniature collections if any. Pictures are welcome as well. :-)

Sovereign Court

I recently came across a handsome looking dinosaur skeleton toy at a flea market, which led me to purchase it for use as a miniature. I did a bit of research and uncovered _THIS_.

I plan on ordering it, maybe even in doubles. The tricky part will be finding cheap large bases. rather dislike getting the Games Workshop ones, but that is simply my opinion.

I needed a Colossal centipede for a game. I found this.

I then needed a Gargantuan ooze, and repurposed it for that as well. My players were like "we have to fight the centipede?!" to which I responded "no, you're fighting the thing EATING the centipede".

Undead Dinos. Too cool.

As for bases, Dungeon Crawler has some larger bases that are not too costly. And they don't force you to buy assortments to get the larger bases either.

There are Spongebob miniature play sets that fit perfectly, of course then I had to do stats for Carnivorous Sea Sponge Leshies :-)

Squid people as a playable race still in the works :-)

I should post a few of mine:

I found this wonderful spider in a Halloween assortment.

This demonic figure is a Spawn Toy.

Sovereign Court

McFarlane sculpts seem popular. See the blog post about the Paizo campaign coming to an end to see what I mean. I should post a link...

I do have a McFarlane green dragon that looks excellent, basing issues aside.

Man, I've got so many toys I use in my games, it's silly. Here's an example of taking a toy and turning it into a Beholder:

That is just too wonderful. I love it. :-)

I have a number of bags of 99 cent plastic creepy crawlies,Insects, spiders lizards snakes frogs and rat to name a few, I picked up at the Dollar store I use in my games. I also found some skeleton dinosaurs I use( Don't worry its one one skeleton you are fighting. Ok its a skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus Rex.)
at several Party supply stores(Party plus etc) I have found other animal figure of Cobras bears, hippos and rhinos for as little as 25 cents each. And if don't think 8 hippos are a big deal, well go take on 8 of them.
I picked up a set of plastic dinosaurs from Toys R Us close enough on scale to use
I use both the Animal Planet tubes and the Safari Limited toobs. I can field a pack of wolves or a pride of lions and other wild animals. Just remember the tubes have no set scale so some figures might be of little use. Although I plan on sticking some antler and a gnome figure on a rabbit from a Animal planet tube so I can have a Jackelope riding gnome cavalier. Of course I will then have to find some one willing to let it into their game :=)
Finally Safari Ltd( Maker of toobs) Has a nice line of Dragons, including a few that can be used as Hydras

Scarab Sages

If I had any idea where my Z-Bots had gone off to, it just struck me how ideal those would be as gaming miniatures.

Mighty Max figurines would be great, too, save that they tend to be a bit smaller than would be desirable.

Sovereign Court

I also am estranged from my battle beasts.

Also, kudos on the beholder.

Schleich makes a number of dragons, hydras, and "dungeon monsters" that are awesome. Some of their knights are suitable as giants.

Sovereign Court

I am eyeing one of those as well... I recently got a Terra brand overlord type.

Razhanmol the Unholy

He is quite large, and would serve well as a very sizeable iron golem. I'd relish to set him on the battlement and watch the players express their despair.

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

I've seen some folks do some great stuff with LEGO for terrain. They're not cheap, but if you already have some... I often regret giving away the collection I had from when I was a kid (although a friend of mine should have it somewhere).

I have the old action figure of Tiamat

You better beleive I've used that on the gaming table

I also have a rubbery Grell, sure it's Size Gargantuan compaired to Minis, but it's still one heck of a nice thing to see players react to it

That just made my day better.
