Build advice for a fighter / paladin character

Advice

My friends an I will be starting a Wrath of the Rightous adventure path soon. I was thinking of doing a spartan/ roman style solder that is sword and shield style.
We are doing a 30 point buy. My race is human and I'm giving my +2 to strengthen. I was thinking of going phalanx soldier fighter, and sacred shield paladin. Not sure if I want to do a 3 level dip in fighter or a small dip in paladin or keeping both even. Any advice or ideas would be great. As feats go I was thinking the two weapon fighting chain but dex is an issue my stats are flexable and open to change. Other than that I was thinking of the shield mastery chain as well if I have the feats. I really would like a decent built that focuses on defences that the monsters don't ignore me and I can do my job.

Stats before racial bonus
Str 14
Dex 14
Con 16
Int 8
Wis 12
Cha 16
